Iowa Blues - Breed thread and discussion

Aww Jake, also sorry to hear, but life gets in the way sometimes.

Best of luck placing them. You may consider putting up an ad in the available section of the forum on IBCC too, to reach potential people that aren't on BYC as well.

Hopefully we find someone local that wants to catch Iowa Blue fever like the rest of us. :D

I really hate to do it, but its needed, also the Delawares and a couple of crosses and my turkeys. Just keeping about a dozen Icelandics. Several mature Icelandic roosters go into the freezer this week.

I will drive to meet anyone in Mich who wants them, but, its really best if they see them here in their pen, hand feed them and see who is who. This is a very nice group of youngsters and are coloring up nicely, but color is secondary to me anyhow, these do have very good conformation for a homestead chicken. And the eggs they are out of were very nice sized for pullet eggs !

They will be missed.

Hi All

Nope, I'll be checking in, there are too many good things happening with the breed. Sunday I am doing an hours drive to meet a lady to give her the two Delaware pullets, they are from the pen with the IBs.

They are all so sweet its going to be hard to see them go. But this group of IBs is literally hand fed pets, two flighty ones, a miscolored dark partridge cockeral, and one pullet that follows his lead, I am very tempted to cull him, but, will offer that option to the new owner. I will be thinking on that this weekend. Right now I amnot impressed by enough positive things about him.

As Kari said as they mature the color gets as it should be, still have two smaller partridge pullets that show quite a bit but bred to a correct IB rooster I am sure the chicks will be better then their mothers. As I've said before, to me the only one in the flock that really must have correct color is the rooster. The hens get a lot of leeway to me. For them its strictly production qualities I score. All of these came out of beautiful eggs. Thats half the requirement.

There is a core of these that have beautiful brick conformation already, including the Birchen cockeral that I think is the potential flock meister. And he eats from my hand and seems to enjoy being petted.

Life goes on, and this is a very nice beginning flock for somone.

Unfortunately won't be showing at the wisconsin international poultry show this weekend. The boys have done their vector duty and the whole family is now down with chest congestion, fever, and feeling like chicken poo. If I feel better tomorrow, which I am seriously doubting right now, I may run up just to see the show, but right now I'm heading back to the couch. Ughhh

I am going to cull the one rooster, on disposition, too flighty. Also he doesnt have anywheres near as good conformation as the Birchin rooster. Its not really a contest. The Birchin is the better one .

Life goes on, sunny today, really nice out. But winter is coming.

Get well Connie !

We are hoping for rain today, but after tomorrow t should be another nice week high 80 - low 50. The birds are loving it!

Hoping you feel better soon Connie! Sorry for being MIA since the show, things are crazy here right now.

Connie, were you able to make anything of those pictures?

Where do I go to sign up for the NEIPA show? Planning on taking about 6 birds....
