Here is a Shamo hen that I’ve added to my breeding group. I’ve crossed her to the Bengal/Tomaru below and the chicks are showing promise but are just getting feathers.
This rooster is part Bengal (Grey Junglefowl cross) and half Tomaru. This bird is about 1/8th Grey Junglefowl.
This young cockerel is only about 3 months old and should improve. He’s the son of the rooster in my last post.
I should be combining some lines in the spring and I’m really excited to see how that next generation turns out.
Thanks everyone! Sadly there is an awful lot that has to do with light due to the nature of iridescent color all these birds pop in light shade but in full direct sunlight they are almost just black. Some of the birds look pretty good in direct light too and part of what I’m trying to do is see if I can combine those traits. I’m not sure what the ceiling is for iridescent color on chickens is but I hope to find out.
What I like about this guy is his color works in full sunlight. I was just thinking that I was done using him for breeding but I might have changed my mind just looking at the photos. It’s still a bit of a mystery to my why some birds have good color in full sun but some only do in partial shade.
