Irresponsible Neighbor

I didn't read the whole thread . All I can say is don't move to Texas because everyone & their uncles feed the wildlife. Personally, I feed the deer, squirrels, and birds.

Good for you for trying to educate the neighbor, but folks like that think they know better. Hope she appreciates her "Gentle Ben" when he forcefully enters her home and trashes it, looking for more food! Or she gets charged, or worse, by a buck deer during the rutting season! I'd keep calling the Fish & Game folks, maybe they can make a dent in her "wildlife feed" budget before someone or some animals get hurt!

Well that may be how you do it in Texas and if it works for you, that's fine. Here we have black bears, very large coyotes that are part timber wolf, and other large mammals who have learned that bird and squirrel feeders mean food. You want to let your kids out in the morning to catch the bus when there are big predators lurking about because some moron has been feeding them? I don't. As someone already said, nuisance bears are not relocated, they are shot. Same with coyotes. Ever seen a big buck run through a window during the rut? They are insane! Totaled my truck in October (rut) 2008 when I hit a moose on I-90. Last year we had a woman at a bus stop in the center of town gored badly by a buck who came charging out of the treeline. 2 PEOPLE attacked by coyotes last year here. Every outdoor cat in town is about gone now, lol. Down at the feed store there are about 20 missing pet posters. I love living here and the wild animals are part of the reason, but they are just that, wild. Beautiful, untamed, wild animals that need to be left alone. Feeding them gets them killed. It concentrates them in one area and they become diseased. It removes a natural fear of humans which results in their destruction. Leave them alone.

You absolutely did the right thing. No one wants to cause friction with their neighbors but there is a line. Turning her in could save her life.

A side note about city people in the country, I toatally have no patience for them. Percentage wise, most adapt I'm sure but I have had my experiences with things that just are not fair like the company that bought up a bunch of land and put 'country mansions' on it so the city folk could live in the country comfortably. Unfortunately the land was near a dairy that had been there for years. The city folk complained about the smell and put the dairy out of business. That really made my blood boil. We live on a dirt road and everyone living on it accepts it as country until the last people moved in from the city and complained about it being bumpy and dusty and wanted everyone to pitch in and get it paved! Ya, right. We just told them thats part of living in the country and if they don't like it they should consider moving back to the city. Besides, we set our speed limit at 15 and if it's paved it will give everyone a reason so drive too fast. We have kids on bikes and dogs etc. The dirt road gives us speed dips instead of speed bumps! We do, however, fill the holes but only enough to keep the mailman coming.

Like I said I didn't read the thread & I'm simply stating a fact almost everyone in Texas feeds the animals. I've never been in your state & trust me I'm not going there. If what your saying is true I agree but I guarantee one thing I'd be packing a gun. Probably a 300 Winchester mag.

I'm pretty sure it's illegal in Texas too, just because everyone DOES it, doesn't make it right. People are lemmings.

Just another reason why Alaskans really DO NOT like Texans that come up here.

I lived in TX, Fort Hood to be exact and yes, I KNOW the severe deer problem ya'll are having because, like my neighbor, people don't want to or totally ignore the reasons why NOT to feed the wildlife. I had my husky get loose one evening and went after her, asked one man who was out feeding "his" deer, if he had seen her. He said no then proceeded to tell me if she came up that way and went after his deer, we lived in a neighborhood in town, he he would be forced to shoot her. I looked at him and told him he shoots my dog he had best pack and leave, as I would own him when I got done in court with him. Ignorance is when you invite them in and expect everyone else to deal with it...

Yes, a bear WILL come through a window, door, where ever they think they can get in to get food in your house. Go you youtube and see what happens...
