Is $150 a hen fair for show Brahmas?

I don't know when the birds he wants to give me are ready but here are his stock. He says he won't have them until after February. I have some of his lines mixed with another line in my pair but the rooster didn't turn out good.
I don’t know anything about breeding, but they are they supposed to have squinty eyes like that? That is really weird!

All the show quality ones I've seen kinda look like bulldogs. That's normal in show Brahmas

Ive seen a fair amount of large fowl show birds go for $50-75 each. Usually the males and females were all priced the same. Ive seen some go for up to $100 each. Im personally am not a fan of brahmas so I wouldnt spend that much but show quality ameraucanas go for $50-75. Ive seen larger birds like barred rocks hit $100... so considering their size and how much feed went into raising them and the culls the price doesnt seem too crazy but personally no matter how nice the bird I couldnt pay over $75 for a large fowl. Now if they are the best of the best in the US then I can understand that pricing but I wouldnt fork it out even if its worth it..

I've seen Thoroughbred horses sell for meat price. If you're dreaming of entering the Kentucky Derby you would be wasting time and money. Exhibition chickens are no different. $400 for a good trio would be a money saving investment for someone in it for the long haul. I have regretted not spending the money many more times than wishing I hadn't. Good luck. I hope your decision works out the best for you.

If they're grown birds ready to show our breed from a well established bloodline and breeder and they are healthy and well matched breeding pair, they're well worth it. You'd spend hundreds more than that getting a suitable batch of chicks and growing them out to select your best pair from. Started birds from a good breeder are definitely well worth the $$$ if you can get them. Puts you waaaaaay ahead of the game.
