Is anyone else interested in cars and motorsport?

With electric cars, we have a bit of a problems with them.
Like my brother was looking in to it a bit, and found that to make one battery is as bad as driving a petrol car for 20 years.
Don't quote me on that, because I can't quite remember what he said, but it was something along those lines.
Also, soler panels use a lot of rare earths, and don't last that long, wind-turbines are bad for the environment in large numbers etc.
What do you all think of these things?
I think its always going to be compromise, but we are sticking with old school cars for now.

I'd question that Wind Turbine statement, I've yet to see any actual hard science to back it. Highly politicized.

Solar has been a mainstay technology since the early 1970's. It's far more advanced today than it was, and from an environmental impact is one of the most eco friendly technologies we have. Again, the disinformation train on it is well established and politically motivated. There's a robust body of science out there easily available.

EV battery production is a problem. the manufacturing process can be bad for the environment, and the materials are controlled by a monopoly of producers, which elevates the pricing. As the tech develops and we get better at producing cells from less damaging materials, this will even out. It's still a young industry.

ICE production hasn't changed in a century. really. The impacts are known, and the sources of oil are shrinking. Not today, but sooner than you might think, we're going to have to wean off of fossil fuel, because there simply won't be any left.

Long story short, Don't believe the sounbdbytes and talking heads. Go deep into accepted science research studies for the facts, and make your own opinion.

I've driven them and priced them, and I just do not see the value for price there. If I want cheap, plasticky interior finishes, I can buy any entry level car from any other maker for half or less. At the market price point they're competing in, the comfort and amenities offered are woefully substandard. The EV price tag is not enough of a reason to spend that kind of money on tupperware. We're in the market and actively looking for an EV, and We've already crossed any Tesla model off the list for these reasons.
And like one of my other posts, i said that some people definitely feel otherwise but I love them and don’t see anything being better.
Like, anything ever. :) I think the features are very neat. We were steering off the road a bit and it automatically corrected the wheel making the car stay on the road and alarmed. So cool!

That's called lane keep assist. Standard feature on many makes and models. Really useful for inexperienced drivers, rage-inducing for others.

Have you looked at BMW's electric vehicles? Too expensive for me, just curious if they are made as well as the gas models.
I wouldn't buy a BMW EV yet. The 3 and 5 series hybrids only get like 40 miles on a charge or something like that last time I checked which isn't often. The I series I wouldn't trust quite yet. BMW is all about the internal combustion engine. And how to get alot of power through naturally aspirated, and even more through forced induction. They're just doing it cause it's the in thing I don't think they will ever be known for thier electric vehicles

They'll ease into it like the other lux brands are doing too. Performance hybrids. Like the Porsche 918 Or the Merc AMD GT 63 S E. Where they're using the electric to hammer early torque to the ground while the ICE winds up to it's powerband. We'll Get M hybrids when BMW is really ready to get into the game as more than a trend. They're testing that at the track now in their IMSA V8 M hybrid. I don't think we'll see the higher end brands ever develop practical EV's, because their owner base wants zoom zoom and vroom vroom. I could maybe see a modest range 911 EV from Porsche, maybe even some Audi or Lambo from VWAG. But that market sector bleeds 93 octane and they will have ICE models at the front of their brands for the forseeable future.

It will be interesting to see if this proposed ICE ban in 2035 in Europe sticks. That will be telling on how all these brands look forward with their products and try to hold on to their markets.

Porsche and Lambo are performance focused cars. And, especially for Porsche, they’re not going to (most likely) makes practical EV, because they don’t do practical gas cars. It’s all About the performance, not practicality.

Standard feature on newer models only. “Newer” models means 2019-2020 and onward
Depends on the brand, really. Most of the higher trims have had it as an option since 2012 or so. VWAG (VW, Porsche Audi, Seat, Lambo) has been standard on all trims since 2017. Volvo too. AFAIK Nissan still doesn't offer it on most models (not that Nissan drivers would use it anyway) Honda was only 2020 for all models. Before that it was the high end trims. US makers I'm not sure it's all trims yet. They have this annoying habit of building cars that are crap so I don't usually shop them for features. :p
