Is anyone else made fun of because they like chickens?

I'm the crazy bird lady here. Its werid everyone picks at you for have sooooo many chickens. But once they come out to the farm and see them they go crazy about and want some for them selfs. or when I took one in town to a parade people keep asking what it6 is. and some say they have never seen a chicken. LOL

Yup.. My husband makes fun of me..

I want chickens but dont have any yet.. I dont have a place to keep them yet.. But I dream of having them. They can feed my family..

But right now I just have Button Quail.. Hoping to soon have bigger quail too.

But I like it and it makes me happy.. So they can just think I am wierd.. What is normal, any way????

I usually get on BYC when I have free time during Study Hall at my school. The kids that see me on it are like "Are you on that Chicken Chatroom again?" I try to ignore it. Most people don't really make fun of me for it unless they are kids who I don't hang out with (i.e. grades higher/lower than me) By the way, I'm in high school..

Wow that's just so sad. People buy and consume SO many eggs, yet they have never seen a chicken.

Wow. What kind of people don't know where their food comes from?

My mom went to a retreat not too long ago. One of the activities the ladies were asked to draw a chicken. Mom said over 1/2 the women put FOUR legs on them!!!!

I hear ya. I live out in the country and had to drive over an hour to detroit. Lemme tell ya, those guys used to make fun of me after I changed out of my outside boots to my steelies for working. It was actually pretty funny how ignorant they were about it.

I decided to be cool and send in some eggs from my Easter eggers to one of the gals there, who made a bunch of deviled eggs for one of our company lunches, and everyone commented on how good those eggs were. She just nodded and pointed to me and told them they were from my birds. Never heard a word from them again.

And to think, It's now cool to be going green and knowing where your food comes from! I wish it would be more cool to be on the 100 ft diet

Yep, we have had our share of comments and teasing. We just do our best to ignore it and move on.
I will never understand people that pick on what they see as others differences.

I'm in my mid-30s and anyone who talks with me for longer than 10 minutes will learn that I have - and love - chickens. It's simply one of the many facts of who I am. Many of my friends are intriqued by my hobby but none have joined me. I know that many think it's "interesting", as in "wow, Jenn is certainly a character, having chickens in the city... better her than us!".

But I don't care. My chickens bring me joy, give me eggs, and provide garden fertilizer that my friends all want.

I know that my coworkers and cousins who are my age think I'm weird for liking chickens.

But then again, their hobbies don't interest me in the slightest. I'll spend my money how I want, and they can spend theirs as they want.

Be who you are and don't aologize for it. You'll be happier and have more time to spend with your chickens when you're not fighting with thses silly people.

All of us here on BYC get picked on--except by each other!! Don't worry about it--I'm grown and I get picked on some at work for my love of chickens--but everyone sure loves the free farm raised eggs I give out.

I am in college and people think its funny that I have chickens and think "oh I am such a country bumpkin for having chickens," but alot of people have chickens and I dont care it is what makes me happy. I am not harming anybody else by having them. I got my neighbor into it, my mom loves watching them(she never liked chickens), and well dad is dad! My boyfriend was a big inspiration for me to get them he has helped me so much with them. I personally dont care if someone has something negative to say about me having chickens or any other animal for that matter. I pay for them and they are healthy(happy) and thats what matters to me!
