We locked down last night at midnight and candled. Out of 23 eggs in the bator, 1 of the barnies looks like it may be a little behind, and two of the BCMs are just plain old too dark to see into, but 20 are 100% good to go with chicks inside... whether or not they survive hatching remains to be seen! We also had a bator failure 36 hours into incubation and had to scramble to get another bator (thank you, Linda, you're a goddess, you know). Otherwise, we would have gone into lockdown early yesterday morning, or if we re-started from scratch after the incubator failed, lockdown would have happened this afternoon--we split the difference and locked down last night at midnight since I don't think any of the eggs were compromised & they had already been in there for a day and a half.
Our last hatch, we only got 4 out of 11, and only 2 of those survived. We are using a different incubator this time and hoping for a better hatch rate.
