Is it a bad sign for an internal layer/ egg yolk peritonitis?

Baytril will be not effective with calcium....

But I found this forum about the Baytril and calcium.

From the horse's mouth, so to speak!

I wrote to Bayer in the UK , explained that I had read a lot of conflicting information about calcium and Baytril and asked for clarification.

This was their reply:

Dear Ms Roberts,

There is no need to withhold calcium grit while using Baytril. The reason there
are conflicting reports around is that it may be true that calcium supplements
added to water may decrease the absorption of Baytril. This applies to in water
calcium supplementation and not to grit.

There is no data to suggest that the administration of calcium gloconate two
hours before Baytril will enhance the antibacterial action of the antibiotic.
However as per the information detailed above if it is administered in the water
with Baytril it could reduce absorption.

Yours sincerely

So there we have it...I think....

So calcium with water interfere Baytril to work properly, but the grits are fine.

and the dosage,,, I better stick to Kathy's recommendation. Not to over dose..

Cirpo is the human Baytril. Here are the Cipro food interactions:

Source: http://www.drugs.com/food-interactions/ciprofloxacin,cipro.html
Ciprofloxacin and multivitamin with minerals should not be taken orally at the same time. Products that contain magnesium, aluminum, calcium, iron, and/or other minerals may interfere with the absorption of ciprofloxacin and reduce its effectiveness. If possible, it may be best to avoid taking multivitamin with minerals while your are being treated with ciprofloxacin. Otherwise, you should take ciprofloxacin either 2 to 4 hours before or 4 to 6 hours after the multivitamin with minerals dose. Contact your doctor if your condition worsens. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

ciprofloxacin ↔ food

Moderate Food Interaction
Do not take ciprofloxacin with dairy products such as milk or yogurt, or with calcium-fortified juice. You may eat or drink dairy products or calcium-fortified juice with a regular meal, but do not use them alone when taking ciprofloxacin. They could make the medication less effective. Certain medications should be taken at least 2 hours after or 6 hours before you take ciprofloxacin. This includes didanosine (Videx) chewable/buffered tablets or powder; sucralfate (Carafate); antacids that contain calcium, magnesium or aluminum (such as Tums or Rolaids); or vitamin or mineral supplements that contain calcium, iron, or zinc.

The same will be true for Baytril.

Kathy, I got it.

I also noticed the difference between the Baytril with calcium in the same time and the one without ...

I gave her calcium 2 hours before, or 4 -5 hours later which seemed me that Deckie became more active and appetite as well.

Her molting is over now. Her new feathers are growing well, even around her vent.

She is still weak , doesn't walk much.. But she eats and drinks well.

Thank you for all your help guys!

Today was the last day (5th) of Baytril..

Could you see the reddish spot on her poop?

Is that blood? I didn't see any blood from other poops though..

Others were like that...

Now, The White German Shepherd is able to be gentle toward Deckie.

He didn't care even she pecked his paw lightly. Deckie doesn't pack hard on people neither our dogs.. ...but the other one does... which is Bumpy who has pendulous crop. It really hurts when Bumpy pecks on my finger... to get my mole on my hand.

Well.. Now.. here is my concern... What if Deckie has an enlarged abdomen again...?? Can I give her Baytril in 14 days again?
I will keep her in the darker room, and give her low calorie food... Although I will feed her human calcium everyday, as well as oyster shell..

Fresh blood is not a good sign. Your hen is probably full of cancer as well as other problems. I don't feel that giving her anymore antibiotics at this point is going to make a difference for her at this point in her life. Can you take her to a vet for a better idea of what is going on. I hope I didn't sound to harsh.

Thank you for the info, pwand.

Unfortunately, my husband had a bad experiment with the avian vet who is the only one in our area when he brought Bumpy who was ill for impacted crop. He told me that will be useless and wasting money to take her to the vet.
He tried to bring Deckie to the vet when she started to look bad at first, but as soon as he called and talked to the vet, he recalled what happened last time when he brought Bumpy.
So he never want to bring any chickens to the vet for sure.

It didn't sound to harsh..but you are very generous to think of me. Thank you, pwand.

So I just try to keep her in a good shape as possible as I can at home.

Small drop of blood and diarrhea may just be a side effect from drug. Some side effects seen in dogs/cats taking Baytril are: fatigue, decreased appetite, diarrhea, nausea.

Is she eating properly, asking b/c of green poop.
