Is it a bad sign for an internal layer/ egg yolk peritonitis?

The friend who saved my pendulous chicken when she was a chick told me that Deckie the sick chicken may be infected to Coccidiosis.

I don't know about it much. I am watching a Youtube movie about Coccidiosis now.

Usually a 3 year old hen won't get coccidiosis since she has developed immunity to the strains on your property by 11-16 weeks of age. If you have brought in other chickens to your property, or that hen just arrived in the last few weeks, then she could be exposed to a new strain (there are 9.) I suppose you checked with your dog vet about letting you bring in that stool sample? Maybe have them ask the vet, and get back to you--be pushy, LOL.

No wonder everybody said to " NO!" to me on the PHONE!!

I have only 2 chickens who stay inside of our house. So there is no way to get infected by others. LOL

By the way, Deckie my sick chicken has been in our bathroom where is the warmest place, then it had been really stincky like rotten cheese/ eggs something like that. but I noticed today was no smell in the bathroom.

It sounds good to me.

I hope she is going to make it. Although I am very concerned about her reddish/swollen abdomen. She doesn't walk like a penguin, but not active as usual. She usually goes up and down all over our house when she is free.

Hello, here is more updates.

Deckie my sick chicken is trying to lay an egg again, which she hasn't done for 3 days or so. After that, she pooped out bright greenish stuff with a lot of fluids. I forgot to take a picture... I will do it when she poops again.

And, when I took a look on her dropping under the cheap microscope, I saw a tiny old blood spot in the green poop.


Unfortunately, my husband disagree with the idea to bring her poop sample to a vet because he had a really bad experience with the avian vet when Bumpy who was a chick and sour crop to take a look for her symptoms. The vet didn't know what was, but a farmer did.

So, I have to do a guessing work now. I really appreciate if you have any idea to cure my chicken.

I haven't read the thread yet, so maybe it's mentioned there, but ascites can be caused by lots of things and it doesn't occur in just hens... According to UC Davis, the young male peachick I lost died from ascites due to a heart defect.

I never drain chickens, so I am not sure if I do. It is only temporary to have her to live, I wonder.
Well, There are more old blood spots in the green droppings in the micro scope, which doesn't sound good.

Her abdomen looks smaller than before, but it is still big.



After I bathed her :
I cut some feathers that has been covered with droppings around her vent, which I never be able to clean them, even though I bathed and tried.





ascetis....yes, I feel that she has a lot of fluids in her abdomen... poor chicken...


But, I don't know why she doesn't eat her regular food, even I soaked them with warm water.

No, she hasn't. she is only taking penicillin, and probiotic.

I am not sure if I can get the medicine to worm her without seeing a vet.
