Is it ok to take a peek??

At first, I thought my girl pecked it but I candled it and I could see that it was pecked at the border of the air cell.

I have chicks set to hatch on friday, can't even say how excited I am! Do you guys think it would be better to move Sunny(my broody) into the garage away from the rest of the girls??? I have been freaking out about how they are going to get in and out of the nest and I'm just plain worried! In need of serious advice!

On day 18 i move my broody into a hutch in my shed. i put in a waterer with small stones in it and then ground up medicated chick feeder in a silo. Personally, i think it's best to keep them separate during this time. They are pretty ramped up and it would only stress them out to have other hens around. As it is, they aren't too thrilled with me poking around. But i try to give them their space for at least the first week and only put my hand in there to give them chopped up hard boiled eggs or to clean and fill the water and food silos.

i had the sweetest and most gentle showgirl peck the heck out of my hand the other day when i picked up one of her chicks. So you don't want to underestimate their diligence when it comes to protecting their babies. That's just fine - better she take care of them 24/7 than me.

Sassah001~ I too am waiting for a hatch this Friday-

I cleaned out the coop and put in a heat lamp, not that we really need it, it's in the upper 80's here in FL, but I put it in the corner of the coop and laid shavings on the floor for the chicks to dry on and keep warm. I will take them out ( the shavings ) as soon as they are done drying, I don't want them eating them, but they are really big wood shavings. Anyways, I'm locking the runner too so they don't fall out and I'm going to lock the doors so none of the other girls can bother her. Today is day 20, I haven't heard any peeps or anything but then again she's sitting on them and I don't want to stick my head down to listen to her butt...lol!

Only comment I have is I did remove the egg shells when i checked on them.

The last 3 eggs hatched over night - Day 21. I'm still debating whether or not to move Mom. I'm waiting to see how everything goes with my 7 other hens who are all sweet like my little Mom and I have a HUGE 12' x 12' coop for them all, so it's not like they are all going to be in each other's beaks.
