Is it okay to can previously frozen tomatoes?

My pa-in-law put two containers of tomatoes into my freezer. He said they were all peeled, cut-up and ready to can "whenever I got around to it". Well, that was two months ago, because I'm a teacher and the first few weeks of school are so busy. So the tomatoes are still in my freezer. Can I thaw them out, bring them to a simmer, and then hot-pack can them?
Or does this sound really dangerous?

Yes, you can use frozen tomatoes according to this site. Maybe pureeing them and making sauce would be the best use for them.

I have one question....why go to the trouble of canning them....why not just use them out of the freezer?

It's because they are in two big containers, not in plastic bags or anything.
