is it posible to incubate a chicken egg using body heat?

So, if you went to buy a single egg for a merigenge but decided to incubate the egg with your armpit instead, what happened to the merigenge? Also, do you not use eggs for other things besides merigenge, which would make buying a dozen eggs instead of a single egg more practical? I'm a bit confused as to how you went from merigenge to hatching.

I wouldn't have the nerves to try such an experiment myself. However, if I had an incubator break down, or my broody abandoned a viable egg, and it was just a few days from hatch, I might go ahead and try to finish it out much like that one lady did.

But, starting from scratch would be too risky for me. If you decide to go ahead with it, it would be awesome if you'd start a diary thread about it, so we can all see what happens. I would just hope it wouldn't end in sadness for you or the chick. That's the pessimist in me talking.

yeah after i got the eggs to finish the merengues and the question came to mind my parents bought a carton also im weird

Welcome to BYC! I think it would be a miracle if it successfully hatched with no abnormities. Plus, how would you do it when you sleep? You can't control whether you crush is or not then
actually the weight is distibuted evenly when im on my side so it dosnt crush try for youre self. you can replicate this by taking an egg in youre hand and squezing it it will not break unleass yo are wicked strong.

I just found an article from Time Magazine online, where a French artist attempted to do this by sitting on a dozens eggs. I wonder how it turned out for him.

Experts were saying it couldn't be done with success, but one did say there was a slight possibility. He said that if they did hatch at human body temp. it would take longer than the usual incubation period.

Apparently, you are not the only person to be curious about such a thing. Doesn't make you weird, makes you a scientist.

Edit: Reuters followed up on the French guy's egg sitting exhibition. Apparently, 9 out of 12 hatched. That's not saying it was scientific in any way or he did not have chicks brought to him in secret. It was an art exhibit, after all.

ok um im a tad bit impashent so i made shure that the guy wasnt false advertising when saying it was fertile so i candled it... i saw that the yolk was moving like it should meaning that I turned it eanoghf and that there was a dark spot in the middle of a light dark spot so im assuming that thats the blood thing cant remember the name.

Ok now done with that unserprisingly i have found a problem. APPERENTLY eggs have tiny holes to allow air into the egg however when using humans we sweat so that would get in there to? As well as bacteria but im not sure aside from showering theroughly i cant think of a way to help remove harfull bacteria.

Ok the last thing is that im contemplating moving the egg to where a sports "cup" would be because its more humid and hot. The only reason i could think about being against it is again bacteria and it dying because stupid diseas exist. Again any helpfull help would help.

You want to keep the egg in a sports cup... against your crotch?
Are you serious?
