Is it to early to give my ducks layer feed?

Basically you wouldn’t want feed to be the only source of food, you’d need something else to make up a percentage of his intake.

You could accomplish cutting the calcium by adding oats and other such grains if that is the goal. Basically adding anything to their diet cuts the nutritional values of the feed since theoretically they would eat less feed.

Thanks for the advice! So....should I go ahead and switch to layer feed? What are you guys thoughts? I am going to look into a all flock feed I just don't want it to be to expensive. If it is to much $$$ then I will just stick with layer feed.

If it were me - and this is what I do - feed an all flock feed. Add oyster shell and egg shell on the side. Easy.

Love that idea!! I am going to look at the ideas that you guys have given and see what fits my budget. The thing with the drake and calcium thing is confusing me tho.

Drakes don’t lay eggs, so they don’t need high amounts of calcium. So the high calcium in layer is too much for a Drake. You can switch to an all Flock with free choice calcium oyster/egg shell. Or you can feed the drake layer but give him (and only him) other food without calcium as a percentage of his daily ration of feed to in theory decrease the amount of calcium in his diet. He can eat the layer, but not ONLY the layer.

Sounds great! I could catch on a bit of what you were saying in the earlier post, but I just needed it to be simplified! Thanks! I think I will stick with layer and see how he does. Then if I need to I will switch to all flock. If all flock fits my budget tho then I might go ahead and switch to all flock now!

I asked a question to see if it was medicated, but I don't think it is. If I use this should I go ahead and switch? I am also going to look at an all flock one just need to find one local.
