Is it too cold? Do I need to bring them in?

Yeah, chickens have to be related to Yeti, because they really don't mind cold like mammals do.

The only time I worry about my hens is when it gets below zero. And even then, I'm sparing in what I do (I want to encourage them to grow their own protection). I'll heat up a brick in my oven and put it into their coop around midnight. It'll radiate heat and bring up the temp in the coop about 10 degrees or so without acclimating the hens to constant heat. Also, I live in fear of electronic heating sources catching my coop on fire

Okay, no one is allowed to laugh...at me no problem, but not at my girls. We live in south central Florida and today the temp didn't even reach 60. My girls won't come out from under the coop. I got them to come out and free range for a very short while but the silly babies ran right back into the run and under the coop when the wind started blowing. They are about 20 - 22 weeks and very healthy so I'm sure they will be fine. They have plenty of protection, from what we thought would be heat. Three trees in the run and a solid wooden fence on three sides. Coop is well ventilated - not drafty. Just thought this was curious. Anyone else have such sissies? 2 Australorps, 2 white Brahmas and what was supposed to be an Ameracauna but is a bantam; cute though.

It always cracks me up when my Aunt visits from Florida - it's 60 outside and she's got a winter jacket on.

We visited Wyoming once (in MAY) and with the wind there, we were in full, heavy, ski type coats. We went into town for dinner and all the locals were in T-shirts and shorts.

When I lived in Hawaii it was the opposite. If it got down to a chilly 75 the locals were in sweat shirts or jackets and the tourists were in their bathing suits!!
