Is my BR about to lay an egg? Making a nest, pulsing bottom

hey all! It’s been a while since I posted. My girls are 17wks and the BR I thought was a roo is definitely a hen (happy dance). She has bright red comb and waddles, her comb is big enough that it flops over. She’s been doing the squat for about two weeks now.

Today she got in a nesting box and arranged the straw to her liking, I also noticed her bottom looks like it’s pulsing, and she’s acting different than normal. Is this a sign that she’s going to lay an egg today?

I read the pulsing could mean she’s egg bound. But could that happen if she’s never laid one before?

My chickens do this too every day before laying an egg. but if its been happening for week and no egg, you might want to take her to a vet asap. it could be egg bound or not dealing with the weather or other bad things. check her out and see if she drops an egg today. if not take her to the vet as quickly as possible. if your chicken is eggbound then they will need to remove it as if left unchecked she could get an infection and die if she cant goto the bathroom etc.

My Barred Rock was doing this yesterday. I was late for work because she seemed to be struggling. I came home at lunch and there was an egg. She laid another one today that I also found on my lunch break.

welcome to the egg club! my 3 chickens laid eggs today too. 1 was laying for a week now. but today the other 2 dropped a surprize so i'm excited too!

@chickmamat Yes, it will resolve itself. This happened to my babies. also if she lays a egg the size of a golf ball it is her 2nd or 3rd egg

The vent will pulse for many reasons....like breathing.
An egg bound bird will act very ill.
The nest arranging is a sure sign she's going to lay very soon!
