Is my duck a Runner?

Well according to Google Maps, Bristol is just under 2.hrs away from me, so quite a way away, though not as bad as I thought it was.. I know the farm we got our ducks from has a ton of ducklings for sale right now, but that's quite a way away from you. I'm sure if you search around you can find somewhere more local that sells ducks

With regards to food, I use Heygates/Farmgate depending what place I get it from. If it's three weeks old I would still have it on chick crumbs. For all my ducks I had them on chick crumbs from 0-6 weeks, growers pellets from 6-16 weeks and then layers pellets from 16 weeks onwards, but its flexible by a week or two probably.

Yeah it would take forever with a big bag and one duckling, but I was thinking in the farm shop where I get my duck food, they actually have small bags of the different feeds, maybe head-sized, so a bag of that may be good if it can be found, then onto growers...

Hi there,
Am in UK too but in West Wales. I am normally in Bath area once a month and will be there in a week on 8th June! We have runner ducklings at moment- our first hatch! Lovely they are...no idea on sex at moment. Take a look on preloved website, often have adverts for ducklings etc and you can put it to show those closest to you. I use it a lot! You can get small bags of pellets on ebay as well, or if there is a feed store near you they might have bins of feed that you can just take as much as you need.

Just thought, our mini appleyard has stripes down head...will try and find a pic, however she is not upright like the runners.

Think I'll get a 1kg bag of starter and a 5kg bag of grower from ebay. Had a look on farmingads.co.uk and tradeit and there seem to be a few local breeders that I could get a companion from, think I'd rather get a duck than a drake as I prefer to have 2 ducks or 1 duck and 1 drake than 2 drakes if the duckling turns out to be a drake. It's tweets are starting to get a bit of a quack to them now, so if voice sexing works it could be a duck.

Glad to hear that there are some Bristol related people on here with ducks, I'm actually heading to west wales (near st.davids) for a week on 9th June - trying to decide whether to take the duckling as the place I'm staying accepts pets - not sure how they'd feel about a duck though!

Might well take you up on that offer, could be a good intro to other ducks!

Here's a couple of links to pictures of the little duck taken about a week ago

S/he's about double the size now!

I think you were dead-on on the breed... It will be so pretty when it grows up! Buddy him/her up soon so there is a good bond... I wish a trout runner would wander into my yard!

That last pic made me laugh. I have similar gu pudding ramikins in the crate with the ducklings, and the water bowl is the same colour too!
