Here's my young RIR that my neighbor gave me, I just red about the black line test for gender but I think this one might be too old to use that method...anyone have any guesses? Very sweet but very timid, doesn't really like to be held much. Thanks!

It's too early to be certain, but I'm leaning roo.

At six weeks to seven weeks, the cockerels begin to show bright red wattles and combs. It is then that one can sex them.

Secondary sexing experience leads one to watch certain birds carefully, for example, the upright stance and short tail feathers is common with cockerels at the age of your bird shown. But again, at 6-8 weeks? You'll know. Here's a couple of photos of how a 7 week old cockerel differs from a 7 week old pullet.

I was thinking it was probably too early, how old would you say it is? Also, what makes you lean towards roo? I'll have to tell my husband not to get too attached (this one's his favorite so far) cause if it's a rooster I'll probably see if our neighbor wants it back. Our's are not going to be free range (chicken tractor) and looks like our D'uccle might also be a roo.

This is very helpful, thank you!

Leaning more towards pullet now but maybe this is just wishful thinking? So hard waiting! :p
