Is our coop/pen big enough for more chickens?

Hi, we have 6 hens and are hoping to hatch out some more babies this spring, but aren't sure if we need to upgrade the accommodations. Our coop is about 5x3, with 4 nesting boxes, an open area, and a long roosting pole. The hens so far (owned 1 year) have only used 2 of the 4 boxes to lay in. The surrounding pen is approximately 8x8, with the coop inside on tall legs so that the hens can go underneath. We let them out most days to roam in the yard (1+ acre) so they get some extra exercise. What's the max number of hens you think we could have with this setup? Thanks in advance!

if I understand correctly you have a coop. and they have 1+ acres to explore on. if this is right probably 12. and if you would like more, you can put a shelf in and build 4 more nesting boxes to have 16. And are they in their at night and if so probably 10.
