Is the quality worth it?

Depends on your goal and the price.

I can say at least the combs are dark and not red... so that is good.

Can you check to make sure both feet have 5 toes? You may also check for split wing. I think I might see comb sprigs on one boy. Check for equal size waddles and the bluest ears.

How broody has his girl been? Which boy are you thinking about? Looks like they were both bearded... but the video moves fast and I'm a little hard of seeing. I FAR prefer bearded. I also can't tell if I'm seeing a black feather on the hens leg or if it's just her skin color moving around. She doesn't seem too friendly.

They will molt this fall/winter. I wouldn't pay more than $30 for the female (the value of any laying hen that age, more likely $25), and not more than $20 for a SINGLE male. I would not take both males.

They are cute birds! :love

Why are they selling? :pop

Hi! Thanks for such a detailed post.
Let me post some more pictures.
This person is asking for 85 dollars for 2 females and one male.

He says he can’t give much time so he is selling all his chickens.

Please let me know if it would be wise to buy these chickens?

They are cute fun birds. They look beautiful to me.

If you CAN have a rooster... I would think $75 would be a fair price for the trio. But an extra $10 wouldn't make or break me one way or the other IF I like the birds and the breed... Offer less, they can say yes or no. Many people can't have roosters and I don't suggest trying to hide one. But if you have a plan for extra boys you hatch... I can sell chicks as fast as I can hatch them for $9 each straight run. I use an incubator and don't steal babes from their mums. Some chicks do go to other homes for a higher price according to age and gender, that were broody raised and already broken naturally. We eat our extra boys including Silkies. If you aren't going to hatch, having a boy is a hassle, but can also be very rewarding IF he is a decent rooster and many are. I wouldn't go as far as to call them perfect quality... but if you are breeding you can select and keep the best of the next generation as you learn more about the in and outs of the breed and what to look for. It's easy to make your money back on Silkies...

But that is my experience in my market. Your mileage may vary.

If you are OK with little eggs, my hens lay well when they aren't broody. Those do look better than most the hatchery Silkies I have seen recently. :)

So I went to the hens club as they call it and I found the silkies to be of very good quality but the male had a beard so I left him.

The girl was 7 months old and the buy was more than 1 year... so I didn’t get them.

The beard and his age would have been the reason I bought him. :old

All my Silkies are bearded and older boys are better to the ladies than younger ones who still need to mature.... if you can have roosters.

I consider NON bearded Silkies to be NOT quality. And I won't purchase them. :hmm

7 months would also have been a good age for a female. Already laying but with plenty of life and laying left still.

So what did you end up getting? :pop
