Is there something wrong with this chick? vid clip"UPDATE WITH VID #38

Bad news! Nugget is doing for the worst again. The past few days i've been hand feeding her. I have a mixture with vitamins, starter, sugar and bottled water. She just stands and sleeps most of the time. I've seen her peck at food on the floor but she isn't eating enough to fill her crop. She will move around a bit but mostly stands with her head hung asleep. She does have fight in her because she gives me a good fight trying to feed her by hand.

I'm sorry she's have a rough time. I have had a few like her hatch out, it is always a guessing game. I wonder if when they bleed some like that, if it could be similar to other animals that doesn't get enough colostrum at birth. I know different type of critter, but sort of the same thing. I'm sending postive thoughts for you and Nugget.

I'm really beginning to think that there may be something wrong inside. Weak heart maybe or something like that. This chick came from a PR hen but a EE roo bred it. It's feathers are white. It's like somebody tossed in a stray egg. This egg also was round at both ends. The only way I could tell which end was up was the faint air cell when I candled. The egg shell was strong and dark brown. Her very first egg too. So there very well may be something going on inside. Her food isn't digesting very fast at all. I fed her around 6 pm and it's almost 3 am and she still has about half the food left and most of that was liquid that I got down her. I'll wait and see if she pulls out of it. But if it continues much longer, i'll have to cull. I hate to take a life that wants to live.

The one I had like that had heart and lung problems from what I could figure out. The pouch of flesh under her beak would puff out when she took a breath. She made it to almost a year old, but she didn't have as rough a start as Nugget. You have done well with her and given her a chance, but you will know when you have done enough. Then again, she might surprise you and decide to improve, it's always a gamble when we raise them.

She is a little better today. I haven't gotten her out but she was preening herself. I put them in the bigger aquariun last night since the 4 week olds are outside now in their own space. DH winterized a tractor. They have a little house with a heat lamp, roost and room for their food and water. I'll lay down some straw when it's time to and they also have a space as a run. I'll get a pic later.

Anyway, i'll get her out and give her a dose of vitamins and wet mash if she needs food in a bit. But her crop looked as if it had something in it.

As far as the chicken with the lung problem. I had a parakeet chick tht had that. It's crop filled up with air. It couldn't eat because it went into its lungs. That was years and years ago and I took it to the vet and he gave it a shot to put it down. He said it's not fixable that it was a defect.
