Most likely a cross breed. Either accidental mating or something to that effect. Or not knowing the situation they came from, could even be a hatchery bird and they were just making their best guess as to breed?

Marans would have red ear lobes and white skin... seen easiest under the foot pad. Yellow skin plus white ear lobes... that's no defect, it isn't a Marans... at least not pure. Maybe part. His offspring will be getting a white egg gene from him.

Are you going to contact where you got him from and ask?

The person that sold me the bird bought eggs for a well know breeder and the eggs where the colour of a maran. What I know is that the father and mother would be copper maran and the grand father a bleu maran

Then they had some accidental hanky panky take place where they BOUGHT the eggs from... I would send pictures and let the breeder know... as a breeder, I would WANT to know. Most people don't sell their Marans eggs cheap.

I have had it happen at my place! Escapes happen. And have some lovely mix breeds being sold off or sent to freezer camp as we speak.

At the location of the breeder there is froment maran but the ear lobe is not white anyhow it is a mystery
