I will add that the duckling is most definitely alive as of an hour ago. This call duck egg is on day 25. It has not internally pipped and I think it is malpositioned. It has been cracked since day one in alot of places on one side. A bout a week or two ago it developed a discoloration seen on picture one. This morning when I went to check it I now see what looks like a bruise on the side near the pointy end. Is this a bruise where the duckling is attempting to pip? Should I open this area? I am familiar with assistance but not from the small end and I've never had a bruised egg. Should I open the air cell and see how the duckling is positioned? These two photos are of the discoloration that has been there a while. Screenshot_20201006-163821_Photos.jpg Screenshot_20201006-163830_Photos.jpg

I would very gently pry away a tiny bit of that shell where the bruise is. Based on a few articles here on this site, that "bruise" is likely an attempted internal pip. I had a duckling hatch this last season after pipping on the wrong side of the egg, but he did need help initially as he had to pip both internally and externally at the same time.

Thank you so much for responding. I will probably remove a piece of shell over the bruised area later tonight. I will have to be extra careful because this egg has been cracked since day one in alot of places. I fear that when I try to remove that bit that the rest of the shell around will crack more or come off.

That first picture just looks like where some of the bloom was rubbed off of the egg nothing to worry about.
That bruising does look to me like an internal pip and it will run out of air if you don't go ahead and open that area and find the bill so it can breathe. Since you said this egg is already cracked I would not open the air cell end unless you have to.
If it were mine I would use a tiny little drill bit and start twisting it between my fingers to make a small hole right where that bruise is. the duckling is probably right up against the egg so be careful that you don't stab into it.
Once you have a small starting place you can take a pair of tweezers and try to break away just the shell in little pieces working out from the small hole you made.
At this stage the shell is not as quite as important as the membrane.
Once you get it opened up you can moisten that membrane and see what you're dealing with so that you aren't hitting blood vessels.
you are going to want to try and uncover just the bill so that it can begin breathing and absorbing yolk.
It can stay this way for a good long while as long as it can breathe if you have the bill free.

Here are some very good instructions by @Pyxis on assisting a hatch.
There is even a section that talks about malpositions and how to proceed from there.

Thanks for your your help. I did read pyxis's guide and will keep it handy when I assist this little guy. I just quickly candled him and I saw alot of movement in the pointy end and in the end closest to the air cell. It definitely looks like a bruise so in a while i will proceed with assisting. There are still quite a few veins present near the air cell and I am worried I will nick a vein while assisting him.

Do you think I should open it right now? I was going to wait an hour or so but would now be best? If so I will start assisting. Thanks for your great advice!

I'm not very experienced with this but I think it would be best to do it as soon as possible so she (we'll call it she for good luck) will be able to breath.

If it were mine I would open it now.
There is no air for it to breathe since it is not in the air cell end.
I believe it could suffocate or drown fairly soon.
In order for things to proceed it will need to start breathing air which it can't do because it's at the wrong end. Just open enough to expose the bill, then it should be safe for a while.
