Is this a good looking silkie roo? (pics)

Saying "Most probably a hatchery silkie," was my nice way of answering your question. Anyone who knows me, knows that I dont sugar coat anything. I could have, and maybe should have outright said "he looks like a POS." After all, your question WAS "Is this a good looking Silkie," not "What kind of comb is this?" You asked a question, I answered. Someone simply stated the standard to you, and you addressed them in a manner which I thought was snotty, therefore I rebutted.

I have no problem with pet silkies, or hatchery silkies, other than I dont want to own any of them. If you choose to do so, then by all means enjoy the heck out of it! But dont chastize someone for (a) answering your question, and (b) giving you information which you dont want to hear. You asked a question on a public forum for which you will always get answers which span the spectrum. If you aren't prepared to deal with the reality of the situation then dont ask the question. There is more than enough information on single combed Silkies here and through a google search, that you could have educated yourself before hand.

Apparently you do otherwise you wouldn't be asking...

oh my goodness are you serious, why are you trying to start a fight about a simple question about a rooster. I dont know ANYTHING about roosters. I am NOT looking to show him.... So the reason I DONT CARE about the walnut comb. Someone asked if has a single comb, since i dont know anything about silkies i asked what one was. The title of this forum is "breeds, genetics & showing" Its not all about showing. I am asking about the breed and his genetic. Who are you to say i am thinking otherwise. I was asking if he was a good looking roo because I DO plan on selling chicks. And those people who was SHOW QUALITY birds will have to look elsewhere, i NEED to KNOW information about my birds so i dont look stupid when selling chicks. (Ex.. "Are the chicks show quality?) I would not have been able to answer that question before i posted this.

It sounds like you are only about show quality birds and you make other silkies sound like a P.O.S. worthless chickens.

edited to say: reason you make yourself sound like that is because your 1st comment was "most probably a hatchery silkie.", then that last comment...

Words of wisdom:
"It pays as much to feed a bad one as it does a good one."

Anyway, the REASON he's telling you what is good and not good about him is because you asked for his opinion. That's what this board is. It's all about opinions. If you are intending on breeding them, you need to tell people that the birds will not be show quality and only resemble the standard in that it has silkied feathers.
1. Comb is too large, and is single-crossed.
2. Crest is not large enough and personally I like the bearded silkies better...
3. Earlobes are red and white when they should be blue.
4. I can't see it's feet so I can't tell if has good foot-feathering or not.

You can either breed for the defaults or try to breed them out. In the end, it's your decision. Just make sure that the people buying from you know what they're getting. Personally, I'd use him in a breeding project or five to see if broodiness was increased in Cochin crosses...BUT...that's another story!

Big crests = blind birds, I clip the crests so you won't have to worry about that with him.
Big foot-feathering = messy feet.

Again...it's up to you to breed how you want to breed, but according to the standard, he only slightly resembles what a silkie should look like. In essence, it what PouletDeCajun described...it looks like a hatchery silkie that was bred for production than for the standards. Sorry if you don't like my opinion, but that's what it is and it can't be changed...I'm a very opinionated person...

yes i did ask if he was good looking, someone relied asking about the comb, thats how the comb came up. we are all entitled to our opinions and the walnut comb to me looks gross. apparently that got your feathers ruffled up.

Information i didnt want to hear? I wasnt hoping for a show quality silkie. I even stated i didnt care if he was show quality, maybe you should have just stopped reading right there. I could careless if someone said he looks like crap, i asked everyones opinion, DUH! You came off rather moody about it. A simple "he's not show quality" would have worked for me.

Ahhhh and about the tons of information about single combed silkies.... well now i can look because now i know what he has, hence the reason for this post.

Thats the reason for this post, is so that i know what to tell people about my birds! I can shoo away the ones who want SQ. I figured he wasnt show quality and i didnt care.

About the breeding him to cochins, i have a few and i may just have to try that. =O)

hatchery quality = not show quality....I thought you had already said you new he wasn't show quality? hmm...brb...going to read through again?

The only thing that ruffled my feathers, was the accusation that I was starting a fight, or trying to. Thats a real problem on this board sometimes. Constructive adult conversations turn into fights because one party or the other can't continue to carry it on. Not pointing the finger at you, but its not everyday that a person can accept a "he's not show quality" answer around here. People get all ruffled if you tell them the truth, and it doesn't satisfy what they want to hear.

If I offended you I apologize.

I know i did but she went about it in a rude way, that made it seem like (like i said) that hatchery silkies were crap. I dont care about the comment i care about how it was presented....

a nice way would have been, "most probably a hatchery silkie but that ok for a pet
