Apparently you do otherwise you wouldn't be asking...
oh my goodness are you serious, why are you trying to start a fight about a simple question about a rooster. I dont know ANYTHING about roosters. I am NOT looking to show him.... So the reason I DONT CARE about the walnut comb. Someone asked if has a single comb, since i dont know anything about silkies i asked what one was. The title of this forum is "breeds, genetics & showing" Its not all about showing. I am asking about the breed and his genetic. Who are you to say i am thinking otherwise. I was asking if he was a good looking roo because I DO plan on selling chicks. And those people who was SHOW QUALITY birds will have to look elsewhere, i NEED to KNOW information about my birds so i dont look stupid when selling chicks. (Ex.. "Are the chicks show quality?) I would not have been able to answer that question before i posted this.
It sounds like you are only about show quality birds and you make other silkies sound like a P.O.S. worthless chickens.
edited to say: reason you make yourself sound like that is because your 1st comment was "most probably a hatchery silkie.", then that last comment...
Words of wisdom:
"It pays as much to feed a bad one as it does a good one."
Anyway, the REASON he's telling you what is good and not good about him is because you asked for his opinion. That's what this board is. It's all about opinions. If you are intending on breeding them, you need to tell people that the birds will not be show quality and only resemble the standard in that it has silkied feathers.
1. Comb is too large, and is single-crossed.
2. Crest is not large enough and personally I like the bearded silkies better...
3. Earlobes are red and white when they should be blue.
4. I can't see it's feet so I can't tell if has good foot-feathering or not.
You can either breed for the defaults or try to breed them out. In the end, it's your decision. Just make sure that the people buying from you know what they're getting. Personally, I'd use him in a breeding project or five to see if broodiness was increased in Cochin crosses...BUT...that's another story!
Big crests = blind birds, I clip the crests so you won't have to worry about that with him.
Big foot-feathering = messy feet.
Again...it's up to you to breed how you want to breed, but according to the standard, he only slightly resembles what a silkie should look like. In essence, it what PouletDeCajun described...it looks like a hatchery silkie that was bred for production than for the standards. Sorry if you don't like my opinion, but that's what it is and it can't be changed...I'm a very opinionated person...
