That's probably what it's going to look like. Just make sure you get all of it out.

should i use peroxide, iodine or just salt water to cleanse the wound after i see what i can get out of it? and do you really think gloves are necessary, i can get some if need be. (i haven't quite set up a first aid station for my girls yet) Also do you think she will feel it or freak out when i cut it? should i prepare for flight?

I use Betadine for that stuff, but I'm sure whatever you have will work just fine. Gloves, I don't use them, but it is good advice. She might move some, so be prepared for it. if it bleeds a lot, you might just leave her alone until the bleeding stops, then get the pus out, that's what I did the last time I did a sinus.

Wrap her in a towel and get your daughter to gently hold her tight. Gloves are ideal, if not wash your really good. Sterilize what your going to use. Peroxide works good for cleaning. Salt water is good as well. Maybe iodine for the end. I'm pretty sure it's used for chickens.

so what if i get in there and don't see any pus like substance? just stop? it will be obvious if it is pus right? just wnat to get my thoughts right before i do the wrong thing.

sterilize with alcohol? I know i sound really dumb about this but i have never done this type of thing on my own before, i am ok cleaning and tending after the vet has done the dirty work, but this is a first for me, at least on animals. I meant Betadine (iodine solution)

Wash the utensils with soapy water and then put in boiling hot water probably 10 minutes would be fine. Clean her sore area with peroxide. Start cutting. It will look worse than what it really is.

If its not pussy, maybe try your best to remove what you can. Any ideas about this Casp?

okay, this sounds like i will need to do some major prepping beofre i am ready to start so i will prep tonight, get a box/pen ready for her and tomorrow after work... surgery commences! i will see if my 9 year old daughter will take pics during and post-op, not sure if i can get her to manage that, she won't want to watch the surgery i am sure. but we will see, if necessary i will trade places with my older daughter and hold while she shoots so i don't contaminte my hands or anything else. Good idea with the towel, i probably wouldn't have thought of that one until after the fact i am sure!

Word of caution, you want to do this when her crop is empty. If she's just had a bunch of water, restraining her could cause he to vomit and aspirate.

People probably do, I just happen to have tons of Betadine on hand, so that's what I use on myself and the animals.

If it is pus, it should be pretty obvious, but it it's a tumor with veins, I'd leave it alone.
