Is this Barred Rock a hen or rooster? UPDATE!! Its a girl!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am just a newbie, but I have a 17 week old Barred Rock pullet. She doesn't have waddles that long yet or a comb that big, but they did turn red on mine last week from pink. I do think yours BR is the typical feather color for a female.

But I am GUESSING it is a cockerel based on the comb and waddles. Do you have any other pictures with a different view of the tail?

I vote hermaphrodite chicken...It can wake you up in the morning and remind you that it's time to collect it's eggs.

all you people saying hen "can't" be serious!!! Just look at them wattels....that HUGE comb. Like i have learned, wattels and comb come first...BEFORE color.

Roo...without a doubt

Id have to say girl, especially if she is indeed 16 weeks. I don't see any secondary feathers that would indicate a roo, and she hasn't got those big old yellow treetrunk legs that a roo would have. All of my barred rock girls have that much comb and wattles.

Here is some pics of my girls.
