Is this BLOODY POOP? 😱🐥😱🐥😱

Update, 10/03/21:

Today is day 4 of .024% Corid treatment for my (now) 3 week old chick and the broody mama. I changed the organic starter feed to medicated starter feed on day 1 of Corid treatment, on 9/30/21. On the morning of day 2, I saw that the baby chick had weird “yellow stuff” stained all over her/his chest. (See pics.) Does anyone know what this could be? It stinks. It looks similar in color to the medicated feed. Yesterday evening the chick looked like her/his crop was really big. I thought uh oh...is this sour crop? I wondered if the chick possibly regurgitated and that’s why she/he has all of that yellow stuff all over her/his chest? This morning her/his crop thankfully looked normal again, so that’s good. I decided to replace the medicated feed for today’s breakfast and instead offered scrambled egg with a little chopped fresh oregano from my yard and a spoonful of Greek yogurt. Figured it might help.

I haven’t seen any bloody poops from the chick since 9/30/21, but both yesterday and today I have seen yellowish poop/diarrhea. What does that mean? Is it a part of the coccidiosis process? I’ve read in other threads about yellow foamy poop. I’m guessing that the yellow stuff is better than the bloody stuff?

By the way, the mama has had normal poops this whole time, so she’s good. However, she does seem to be losing a ton of feathers for some reason. I saw her pulling some out this morning so I’m going to dust her. (Her dust bath on the ground level is currently all wet.) She refuses her inside dust bath...punk. She is 8-9 months old, so she can’t be molting. She may be stressed out.

I have removed both of them from their chicken condo and put them in another space temporarily so I can completely clean their condo and refresh everything. It stinks. I think the baby has been pooping diarrhea upstairs in the shavings. I closed off their ability to go to the ground level, in the dirt, because it’s been raining here and everything is wet down there.

Questions for BYC Peeps:
1. I was going to pause the Corid treatment for a week after tomorrow (since it will be day 5) and was planning to do another round of 5 days after that. Or should I go a day or so longer since I saw yellow foamy poop today?
2. Any guesses as to what the yellow stuff on the chest is?
3. Is sour crop a possibility for the chick from what I shared with you guys?
4. I wanted to give the baby chick a bath...is that ok at this age with it being sick and all? I was planning to blow dry afterwards. Is baby shampoo ok to use?
5. If any of you have guesses as to the sex of this Lavender Orpington chick let me know because I’m getting tired of saying “her/his”. Lol...😂

I hope your chick gets better! Luckily I have had no majorly sick chickens. Only a case of mild mites, which please no arguments on DE, but I used DE on the coop and mildly on the affected hen and I sprayed the coop with a mix of veg. oil, dish soap, and water to suffocate mites. On the bath, bathing chicks can be a risky thing. Wash in warm water, luke warm, not too hot not too cold. I would probably try not to use soap if I didn't have too. MAKE SURE she is COMPLETLY DRY before you put her back outside. Pullet maybe? I'm not very good with guessing yet. I have only had two batches of chicks. Good luck!

Thank you @TheCluckyClucker , I actually do all of the things you mentioned for mites as well, lol.

I wasn’t sure about bathing the chick, so that why I have refrained. This is my first time with chicks, so I wanted to ask the BYC Peeps out there. It’s been 2 days since I discovered the yellow stuff on the chest and whatever it is, I’m not sure if it’s good to leave it on either. If it’s better not to, then I won’t. I’ll wait to get more feedback.

And thanks for your thoughts on the sex too, lol. I believe there is another section where I could ask about that, but I figured I would throw that question at the end of my other questions mostly because I was annoyed with having to say hers/his all the time! 😂 I figured if someone helping me through this issue of coccidiosis sees the pics and feels like they know what the sex is, then why not, right?

There is so little amprolium in medicated starter, it's not likely to overdose the chicks or really make any real difference in the Corid treatment. But it is a good idea to replenish B vitamins after Corid. Then withhold them again the second time you treat.

The yellow stuff on the chest is from indiscriminate lying about in its poop. It's likely yellow cecal from the Corid treatment. Don't worry about it. You might want to take a soapy wash rag and clean the chick, then blow dry or let it sun dry.

Broodies are under stress just being broody. It's a hard job. Give her extra protein and carbs to get her through this.

Oh wow, @Iluveggers I didn’t know that!! Thank you for pointing that out!

I started the chick on organic chick starter but then started giving medicated feed starting on the first day of Corid treatment, just a few days ago. Should I just go back to the organic starter feed then? The chick still has diarrhea. 😖

Aww poor baby. Like I said lots on here will say it’s ok to use both but I personally chose not to. I just used organic starter. Vitamins/electrolytes as @azygous said should be given after the Corid treatment.
Good luck w your birds. ❤️

Your opinions please! Is this bloody poop? Cocci???

This is my first experience with chicks.

HISTORY: Our Lavender Orpington chick is 2 1/2 weeks old. Mama took baby out of the top part of this chicken condo when it was about 1 week old. Neither have left the condo itself and they are the only occupants. There is dirt on the very bottom floor mixed with now dead grass. Inside the top coop, the wooden floor is topped with first a dusting of DE and then a light layer of pine shavings. I remove the droppings with a gloved hand regularly.

THIS MORNING: I just found what looks like a little puddle of BLOOD on the steps!!!??? I know it came from the chick because mama was still inside the top coop with the door down when I came to let them both out. (The chick must have wiggled itself through the cracked door. It’s on a pull string and does not tightly close.) It looks pretty fresh. I looked the chick over and found NO remnant of blood anywhere on it’s light colored body, including it’s bottom. It’s acting completely normal, eating and drinking like usual. 🤷🏻‍♀️

FOOD: organic starter grower crumble as main source of food. Fresh water daily with no other additives. And for the past week, I’ve added a small handful from my hand (on occasion) of either dried meal worms, fresh picked clover and organic steel cut oatmeal. Would papaya cause this?? I actually gave the mama and baby some fresh papaya for the first time yesterday from my papaya tree.

I’ve read on other threads about a medicine called corid. I will call my local feed store while I EAGERLY WAIT for your replies! (Thank you! 🙏 )

There are baby chicks with their mamas walking around wild all over my island so it’s strange to think that the dirt could cause a problem for them. Maybe confinement is the reason.
It sounds like it could.. And no, i beileve papaya wousnt cause this. Id bring her to a vet, keep a eye on her and her stools and make sure she has no other symptoms. Try giving them some viatamins and oatmeal maybe.
