She's pecking because it's not her baby, even though she hatched it. I have had many hens reject my baby ducks. It's Best to remove it from her. BecaUse if she doesn't hurt it an aggressive rooster will.View attachment 1069310 The Duckling in the original post hasn't hatched yet. However we have welcomed to the world a little stanbridge white boy! ( i think it's a boy anyway.
Also, mama pecks it. Is she trying to tell it to go under her or is she being mean?
She accepted and is being a very good mother! She's pecking because it's not her baby, even though she hatched it. I have had many hens reject my baby ducks. It's Best to remove it from her. BecaUse if she doesn't hurt it an aggressive rooster will.
You understand she can't raise it. Ducks need water to clean out the nostrils and what not hens can't teach them to swim plus they don't have the oil to put on that baby to help them stay afloat. And if you have ducks already. They may hurt that baby because they may not welcome new comers. I'm just saying from experience if it was me I would raise it and have it imprint on me. I love being a momma duck. She accepted and is being a very good mother!
Congrats! Can you post another picture of the one the one you're concerned about?View attachment 1069840 View attachment 1069842 The one in the original post hatched last night! The one that pipped on the wrong end of the egg hasn't hatched yet. It was the first one to pip. Should I do something? The first photo is from last night and the second one is from this morning! 2 out of 5 so far.
