Is this even a Salmon Faverolle?

Crosses may not have beards or muffs. This is one of mine @ POL. She has feathered legs & the colouring but no beard or muffs

It looks like one to me, but with that much black I would wonder if it could be a cockerel. I've had a couple who didn't get the puffy cheeks until they were a bit older. Can you post more pictures in a couple of weeks?

It looks like my Salmon Faverolle cockerels when they feathered out at a few weeks old. That's how I knew they were males. I just rehomed them.

I should have added that Faverolle roos are beautiful! I just don't need more roosters.

Last year, I had a hatchery SF female. It had darker coloring than it should have been, but no black.

This year we ordered straight run SF (2chicks) from a different hatchery. Both are female and zero black feathers, and happily they have much better salmon coloration.

If yours are true SF, then the black feathers would indicate male.

When they feather out black it is a male. Even tho you got it from a feed store and they ordered pullets, a hatchery will often add males for extra warmth. And sometimes they just screw up on sexing.

I wouldn’t mind if this one turns out to be a SF cockerel based on the black feathering but I will be sure to update with more pics in a couple of weeks when the body feathers really start coming in.

I googled and I agree that they are very beautiful / cool looking roosters with amazing coloring.

Bird shown is HQ SF cockerel. My hq of this year looked pretty similar through the face with regards to feathering or lack thereof at that stage....they have *some* muff/beard now, but not much and I expect as much given source/breeding.

They don't "screw up" on sexing.....the nature of vent sexing is that there is an expected mis-sex rate. There are over 20 possible configurations to be seen inside the tiny vent of a day old chick....many of which look very similar between m/f....frankly its amazing they are as accurate as they are
