Is this hen supposed to be this FAT??

I raw feed my dog. The cheapest kind of "legs and thighs" packaged and sold at Wal-Mart . . . my dog won't eat them much. Guess now I know why.

She can tell if meat is bad before us humans can smell it (she once refused to eat some Tyson legs that seemed ok, and 2 days later they smelled horrid! I use her to "test" all the meat now!)

I think that's too much corn. Not only will it make them too fat, it decreased the protein content of the diet down to about 12 percent. Then if you feed many kitchen scraps on top of that, the protein is even less. BUT, I think your girl is fine to eat.

Your girl didn't die from sickness so I'd eat it. I would cut out most of the corn though, as that can set up the rest of the flock for laying issues in the spring due to build up on the reproductive track. Prolapse isn't something fun to deal with. The picking might stop too if they are getting more protein.

An interesting fact about salmonella and thing like e. coli on our foods, the origin of contamination for 99% of these cases is of HUMAN origin! In other words, someone didn't wash their hands and the strain of bacteria found contaminating food is from the human gastrointestinal system.

I butchered a nice looking Dom roo a few couple weekends ago and the corn gave him huge globs of fat all throughout... no worries... eat up and enjoy that juicy tender chicken. cut her in half wrap in foil throw her on the grill until done ... don't cook on high heat though, and you will want more.

The corn is no biggie if you are going to slaughter within a year or so. If you want them to be around for a long time (more pet than livestock), then you shouldn't feed corn.
