Is this legal? Any attorneys out there? Long rant. Update page 9.

This post made me think... I've never seen a sign that said no buses, but I have seen LOTS that said, "Bus drivers eat free!"

It seems like most restaurants would welcome the business.

your right Drivers eat free at most food places, just look at my backside to find out.

The first thing I say on the phone is 'non emergency noise complaint' and I'm not in jail...

And that would be why.

They can transfer you to dispatch of your local PD. Which is where anyone should call if they have need of a police officer.

They never have transferred me, they just take my info and send a cop out... maybe it's a small town thing...

UPDATE! This morning I went to school and called the transportation dept. I asked to change the lunch location and told them why and they said no problem. Then I called an alternate MD, that was a little out of the way, and asked if they could accomodate 35 high school kids at 12:15. They said no problem. About 30 minutes later, the supervisor of the first MD called me. He said he was so sorry, that he didn't know what the mgr was thinking. He said the mgr had been there 20 years, but that they had just finished a counseling session about this. He said he would be grateful if we would come to MD to eat lunch. I told him I already had an alternate location, and it turned out that he also supervised that one. I have another field trip next week with a different group of kids, so I might give the first MD another chance, or maybe stick with the alternate location. I haven't decided yet.

So we went on our field trip. We had 33 kids. The docent or tour guide at the museum was great. The kids were asking questions, and responding to her questions. One kid who has hardly said two words all year got really excited about the Winslow Homer etchings. Later we went outside to the sculpture garden and he was also interested and excited about the sculptures. Then we went to lunch at the alternate MD. As soon as we walked in, the manager called my co-teacher over and told her that the bus driver gets to eat free. The driver came in and left with a big bag of food. It took a while, but everyone was served, everyone found a place to sit. The students were good, even helping a little old lady who spilled her coffee. We got back to school with several minutes to spare. It was a really good day.

Thanks to everyone for your moral support.

I'm glad all went well bluie. The first manager was a dink and now he knows better. I would have no problem going back to the place. You can't let one dink ruin it for the whole place. Glad the kids had a good time.

Happy that it went well. You can bet that manager was upset for not "winning" your vote for that McD.

It would be surprising if the dist manager called you to see how things are going and probably scold the original manager for doing the "flak" business of things. Twenty years of experience dont hack it with me if that manager decided to change the rules.

HA-haa! (like on the Simpsons) He got "counseled"! lmao at HIM so hard I can't type on my laptop! It keeps wilggling all over the place because I am laughing so hard!

Glad your kids were so enriched and had a positive experience all the way around. THAT is what filed trips are supposed to be all about anyohw! GOOD JOB!!!
