Is this legal? Any attorneys out there? Long rant. Update page 9.

This post made me think... I've never seen a sign that said no buses, but I have seen LOTS that said, "Bus drivers eat free!"

It seems like most restaurants would welcome the business.

I say dont take them. Normally id say take them, its your right and if he refuses you guys, then raise hell. BUT in this case i say screw the guy, if he doesnt want that much business and leading his actions to lose your schools business from here on out, i say good, his loss, their loss and i would call up the district manager or higher and tell them exactly why you wont be coming back EVER to that place.

I have been on both sides of the counter on this one.

As a teenager I worked at several fast food places and the second a bus was spotted the head would call out what type of bus it was. We always had a plan! But it was still chaos. I did bus loads in the middle of lunch rush....

Ugg! But most of the time if the weather was nice the group would eat outside, not in the "dining room".

Now as a school bus driver.... Oh yeah stopping at a rush time at a fast food place... Yikes! Limited parking and I worry about the safety of the kids crossing knowing how impatient many drivers are about getting their lunch as fast as possible!

Before you leave on the trip talk to your driver, they may have a suggestion. Or know a different place to go that will appreciate this group.

If not this time, in the future I would go to places that cheerfully welcome you.

Taking this one step further, I would steer away from places that sell meat generated from "factory farming" practices. Alternatively, order vegetarian for everyone. Or bring bag lunches (at least some of those lunches will be PBJ!). My bet is that the chickens - now nuggets - lived a pretty bad life before they got to McD's, or for that matter most restaurants, fast food or otherwise. Practices won't change if we keep supporting them with our money. An educational opportunity for kids.

The first thing I say on the phone is 'non emergency noise complaint' and I'm not in jail...

And that would be why.

They can transfer you to dispatch of your local PD. Which is where anyone should call if they have need of a police officer.

When you have 40 teens to get fed cheap and easy is the way to go. Bagged lunches can be a pain in the booty and the less food on the bus the better. Also I as a parent have gone on several field trips with my daughters class and I can tell you that the kids are thrilled to go to McD's. For many it's a treat. Like us we don't eat alot of fast food. Usually 2 times a month.

Also I think that healthy eating is good. But choosing not to eat meat from "factory farming" or eating vegetarian should be a personal choice that shouldn't be imposed on a group. I send my kids to school for an academic education and that is where it ends.

I forgot to say that they are 100% within their rights to refuse service to ANYONE AT ANY TIME FOR ANY REASON! All they have to do is ask you to leave ONE TIME then they will call the cops and have you removed.
I'm just saying it would be dumb...

They are in CUSTOMER SERVICE. so...SERVE THE CUSTOMER for goodness sake.

If I was the guy, I'd jump for joy that 30 extra customers want to come AND CALLED AHEAD!!!

this guy is a moron.

I agree that it not an insignificant challenge but with countless people thinking the same way, that is why positive change is glacially slow to come for beings that cannot speak up for themselves...and meanwhile, much suffering abounds. Just a fact. And one that unfortunately I have witnessed with site visits for my work. It's still everyones personal choice - absolutely - but let's be up front about the ramifications. And the domino effect of desensitizing the next generation.

I have a poster from the Netherlands that says "Waar Begint Een Beter Milieu? Een Beter Milieu Begint Bij Jezelf". I understand the translation to be as follows: "How do you get a better world? A better world begins with you." In any case, still your choice.

Circling back to the central problem the OP states, I wouldn't patronize a place that doesn't welcome the business. Vote with your feet.

Honestly I think he just doesnt want to have to work. If you show up and he gives you crap, most franchise OWNERS will have like a phone number hung up some were around the place so you can call.
I mean honestly!
McDonalds is the stopping point for every church youth group, boy scout troop, brownie group, youth sports team, etc etc etc. He just doesnt want a saturday afternoon crowd on a weekday.
Get the franchise owner's phone number, most owners have actual office since most own more than one business venture

I would definitley contact the district manager or the owner. My daughter works for Chick-Fila as a supervisor. Her restraunt is located in the middle of a large Mall and has these requests from schools all the time. If she ever turned away business (no matter what the time was) she'd be fired. In todays economy this guy is crazy to turn away any business! (My daughters Chick-Fila does alot of catering also, they are always slammed with people coming in for lunch, wanting to place orders and such, though she will say its nice to get a heads up when the school is coming in so that they can get a jump on production. Though the schools dont always do this, she just tells her crew to roll with the flow and makes sure each individual is prepared in their job, so it all goes fairly easy.) This guy just sounded like he didnt want the inconvience to me.
