Is this normal

I have a silkie pullet. Fully feathered and from a spring hatch. She is about four months. This morning i was allowing an americana pullet, only two days of age, walk through with the older flock. Btw i was watch closely so she wouldnt get hurt. My silkie stole the baby. Tge silkie hasnt even laid yet, but she wont give back the baby without a fight. I put them in a seperat hutch, due to the other birds. I find this addorable, yet im bewildered. Any thoughts?

Silkies do have some strong mothering instincts. Maybe she decided to adopt your little guy???

Silkies are among some of the best "chicken parents" possible, so she's just acting on her instincts. Perfectly normal.

Here she is steeling some French Marans 4 das old

This is the final out come, almost 30 chicks total she did raise them all

That is a great momma you have a lot of people would do anything to have such a girl

It's also not unusual for a silkie roo to sit on the nest so the broody mama can have a break. Or for them to encourage pullets to try out nest boxes by going in first and showing them what to do with the bedding.

That's cool! Lol I didn't think they would do that before they actually lay.... Now I want to go snag mine and see if they won't brood my 2 week old chicks for me.... Hmmm I guess it's worth a shot

this is an americana mama if im not mistaken. Thats what my silkie stole is an americana chick. Didnt know they went broody.
