I am currently incubating a barnyard mix. They're looking good! One of the eggs I received is a bit smaller than the other eggs, which I have no problem with. My curiosity is, although we see movement inside the egg, the air pocket looks extremely big... and it seems like the chickie only takes up half the egg, instead of fuller. TODAY is day 16.

And egg candled:

This is my first incubation inside, but I candled my broody's eggs and they were all very full inside the eggshells. Also, the other eggs are much fuller as well.

So, what gives?!?

Looks normal to me I have eggs in the incubator right now on the same day as yours! I'll candel and show you pics the flashlight on your mobile phone is way better than a flashlight btw

I think it is developing OK. Odd that it is a smaller egg yet a bigger air sack. As long as it is still developing I would hang in there.

Is it the more elongated egg labeled 1?

It may be from a young layer. Not sure about that since it could be a bantam too.

It has been 20 years since I even let a broody hatch. They were bantam EE and not much bigger then a japanese. She was a freak about her kids so checking them risked to much. She would come off the nest to attack sending eggs everywhere.

I have fingers crossed for #1.
