Hello! I was wondering if this is ocular mareks. I know it’s more uncommon but maybe I’m being paranoid because my hen is sick and she’s showing some signs of mareks disease like lethargy, runny poop, not eating etc… her pupil looks like it isn’t a perfect circle? I was wondering if it’s normal. Please help!!

I wouldn't be concerned quite yet, but I'm not an expert.
Do you know how long it takes for a chicken with ocular marek symptoms to be properly diagnosed with it since it’s apparent? I know it happens over time but how long is that? A few months? I’m really worried as it’s not a perfect circle but other than that her eyesight seems fine.

It doesn’t appear to look like ocular Mareks now. To me it looks normal. What symptoms make you think your chicken has Mareks? There are 4 different groups of symptoms that may be possible with Mareks. Most chickens may only have one or two types. It depends on the virus strain and the severity. They include ocular (eye form,) cutaneous or skin form, neural (nerve,) and the visceral tumor form. Here is some reading about the disease:

Thank you for your reply! She’s been acting strangely for the past 2-3 days; not eating (having to get force fed),lost weight, not firm poops and it smells a lot, hasn’t laid in a week, lethargy and sleeping with her head in her wing. I don’t suspect she has any other forms of mareks only the ocular because her pupil wasn’t perfectly circle. I’ve given her extra vitamin supplements and force feed her but she’s still acting lethargic and I don’t know what to do. Please help!

She may have an infection. What antibiotics do you have on hand, including people prescriptions?
No antibiotics, I only have panadol (paracetamol) it’s a mild human pain killer medicine but I don’t know if it’ll help.

Do you have a vet? Ask your vet for an antibiotic prescription to treat a reproductive infection. You will need a ten day supply of amoxycillin (20count)250mg two times a day. You will pop the pill into the beak 2xday. Assure your vet you will assume responsibility for treating the hen.
