Is this perch too high?

The thing is to not have the roost too close to the walls since they fly at around a 45-degree angle.

Except for some of the more active youngsters who launch themselves off the roost and over my shoulder as I'm opening the door!
And hopefully your birds will use the ramp. I had a ramp. The big girls would go up it, but they would jump down from the roost and hurt their feet. Smh....

This is my exact worry! Thinking about adding a second lower ramp, roost or shelf for them to use to hop up if they want. Although, you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink. Chickens seem much the same

Pretty much. I have laddered roosts and the youngest ones wisely "step down" from high to low before hitting the ground. The older (and heavier) birds all go straight from the top to the ground, and you can hear them as they land. Alternatively, if I go out early enough, a couple of them will wait on the roosts and call to me for elevator service down to ground floor. :D

Aww that’s so sweet. You’re good for more than just snacks to them :D I will add laddered roosts to my options, I like it 👍

In the process of building my girls a mansion out of a shed. Got the poop shelf in and a perch above it, but having second thoughts on height. Should we lower everything? How high do they like to perch? Right now they are sleeping in a prefab coop that doesn’t offer high roosting, and they struggled at first with there not being higher places to roost at night. They constantly flapped up to the top and even tried to sleep outside on top of it. I don’t want them to fall off or try to jump from this height, though.
We also used a shed we purchased from a local builder to give our girls and boys plenty of room. We spent a day building a roost of multiple levels with plenty of space for everyone. And every single bird uses it as a ladder to get to the rafters.
