Is this silkie chick a light blue..update..NO..it's a splash...

Could you put the baby up against a solid color background and take a photo? The photo has a yellow cast to it.

I think it's possible for a splash to acquire spots later on. Also, when you breed Splash to Splash for several breedings, your spots get lighter and lighter.

I just had a splash born with no spots. Of course, it may also be a very light blue.

He could be a very light blue. Do you have any pictures when he was born? I have some dark blues and I have some lighter blues. I could probably tell more from is younger age.

My newborn chicks did have
faint splash markings that became
more prominent as they got older. I'm Sure some
splash are hatched as solid colors.

It's definitely not a white. The
color from my monitor is pretty true.

I'll look for photos that I may have taken at hatch. I usually do take them at a couple of days old but on first look don't see any.

I'll take more photos against a solid black background when I get back from a short trip today and post them.

Thanks for your input..

It is splash. A common result of blue breeding. I have never seen a blue with down that pale. The splashings often/usually come later--sometimes as much as a couple of months later.

Will you look at those feet! How cute! I have had a blue hatch that light before. The little blue girl I have now in fact. The splash chicks I have hatched do not have any other color as chicks but they have all appeared more Silver gray at the beginning than the blues. It is hard to tell from the picture.

This is a picture of my little blue girl at about 5 weeks old.
