Is this silkie chick a light blue..update..NO..it's a splash...

Of course everyone marks eggs in their own uniques way, but if I were to guess, "bl spl" would indicate blue & splash parents, "blk spl" would indicate black & splash parents, and following that pattern, "blue" would indicate both parents are blue.

You might ask the breeder how he/she marks the eggs.

Looks like a splash to me...I just hatched out 6 blues and they are much darker than that. When I mark my eggs, I put BSP if the parents were a splash and a blue. Then I know that the chicks will be splash or blue. Maybe you can do what Sonoran suggested and ask the breeder how they mark the eggs.....Cute chick!

What a cutie. I have had some pretty light blue chicks here too. And this baby looks like my light blues. They do darken up, but are never as dark as most of the others. Not sure what causes it though. I guess breeding the lighter blues together over time? But it could very well be a splash, it is hard to tell from pictures. Very cute either way.

This is my splash the day it hatched, and now it's looking very silvery with splash markings. See the markings on its head? I've never seen a pic of one like it. It is 23 days old now, and already obviously splash.
