Perhaps I wasn't clear. Inside the city limits of Lexington, which IS the county seat, there is a total ban on backyard chickens. The county has no such ban. I can have as many chicks as I want, goats, pigs, whatever....there have been discussions to overrule this city ban, and many residents have showed their support in over turning the ban, few (if any, except those in charge) have showed support of the ban, yet it was upheld, so I was told just yesterday. I will have to look further to get more details because I thought the ban was overturned in June.

It makes no difference where the county has there office they cant over turn a city ban. Only the people that live in the city can decide what the city does.

How many voters live in the city ?
How many what to change the ban ?
Is it over 50% ?

How do you know how many people support the ban ?
Do you know how many called to express their opinion ?
Do you know how many people mailed in their opinion ?

Sounds more like you do. Elections are all about cash. Has almost nothing to do with where someone stands any more. People spend 30 to 100K to get a county job that pays 30K. Even if 80 or 90% agree with you it takes matching funds to run an have any chance.

If you have over 50% of the voters on your side you will win unless some voters on your side sell their vote.

Dennis, you are either asleep or willfully wearing blinders. And for the record, we are a constitutional republic, not a democracy. We aren't supposed to depend on mob rule. I'm stepping out of this conversation. I gave my two cents on ss disability. Good night.

You've shocked me. Are you suggesting that democracies are run by mobs?

A true democracy is mob rule. WE are not quite that but it sometimes looks like it.

'Mob' in the sense of majority (on the occasions that you bother to count all the votes, that is) OK. But 'mob' conjures up images of people charging through the streets intent on storming the Bastille. A democracy can be a republic, a monarchy, have a written constitution or not have a written constitution.

Have you seen the occupy movement. The ones in Atlanta were making threats about "levitating" buildings

I've read about militias ready to attack either Chinese or Muslim invaders or an elected government. Is that what you mean?

Do mobs really rule in the US? Oil company mobs? Arms dealing mobs?

Does Occupy rule the country?
