Is us just me?

Yep, not sad at all, and I know what it's like to hit by a car. Not fun. Only hope it was a quick death for the critter.

I will not swerve to avoid small critters. Not going to increase my chances of a accident. Seen many times people overcorrect after trying to avoid critters and end up in the ditch, or slam on the brakes and get rear-ended.

Deer and bear, yes. Definitely do my best to avoid hitting them.
Been in our house a just about a yr, and there's been 6 deer hit and killed within 100 yrds of the driveway.

I've had three 'close encounters' with deer. Brake hard, yes. swerve into a tree or another car, no way!
That deer is still a softer target. First time, a big doe in ran in front on the freeway; she hit hard enough to make the car undrivable, and still ran off, poor thing.
Second time a buck committed suicide running into my door. Unseen until the hit! Car drivable but damaged.
Third time last week; older fawn ran in front, rolled and ran away. Car not even dented.
Obviously we have TOO MANY DEER around here, in farm country. They are beautiful, but still...
On two driving trips out west to national parks, way fewer deer sightings by us. Bigger mule deer, but with less food per acre, a lower population.

I'm glad to see it because I know that it removed a predator that was dumb enough to get hit in the road, thereby strengthening the species. The same natural selection that has happened for millennia. I know that it won't make any difference in local populations. I also don't believe that chicken predation is any type of major issue in today's age of information and technology, and any that happens in spite of this information and technology is simply a result of poor management, possibly saving the birds from a worse fate at the hands of the practitioners of such management.
