Hi, I'm new here. Hate to join and ask questions right away but may be in a chicken emergency. One of my 25 week old Isa brown has been out of sorts last couple days. She didn't come running for treats one night and was alone outside. I brought her to her coop and put her to bed. Next morning she was noisy and back to normal. We did find a soft broken egg in the coop later. Tonight she was under our deck looking past dark and looking at an egg (she never lays there) the egg broke as soon as I touched it it and she looks healthy on the outside but you can tell she diesnt feel well. Her crop feels like she has sour crop, semi squishy feeling/instead of hard. She had it as a 7 week old when she first started exploring outdoors. Does this sound like what is going on? Sour crop I could see leading to weak eggs if the oyster shell isn't being absorbed. We took her inside for isolation. I have her garlic water last time. Any advice worried about losing her since I didn't catch this right away.

Can you give her a half of a Tums or human calcium tablet for the next 3 days? In new layers it can be common to lay a soft shell egg, but soft or shell-less eggs can be hard to pass, and it can make them feel poorly. The crop problem might go along with her laying problem. Does her breath have a bad or sour odor? I would check the crop again in early morning to see if it has gone down.

So far she's freely drinking the garlic water. She is a pretty new layer about 2 weeks she started, I'll try to get a wiff of her breath, she's shaking her head when I rub the crop which is what she did last time

Hi dear! Hope your hen is feeling better. 🥰
How is her abdomen? Is there swollening?
How are her poops?

We brought her inside, she had just the garlic water. She really clucking this morning and hungry. Poops look normal, crop has started to go down pretty quickly compared to last night. I cooked her a scrambled egg which she eating quickly. Not sure really whats going on or if she was was just calcium defecient. She has access to oyster shell (not at the moment though) she was a lethargic mess though last night. Any other ideas what may be going on or happened? Will still keep her inside and monitor what happens

To be more specific last poop looked normal but was pretty watery, light smell

Garlic is not a usual treatment for crop problems. Probiotics, plain Greek yogurt or cottage cheese in very small amounts can be helpful. You can order Medistatin powder here which is the same as Nystatin, but not a prescription drug:
https://www.jedds.com/shop/medistatin/Or you can get the Monistat or miconazole cream (or 1/3 of the suppository) twice a day, and try that. If her crop is emptying overnight, you might just use some probiotic yogurt and go from there.

I have to get some yogurt for her today. I heard of the garlic from people on YouTube who swore by it for the water balloon crop, it worked last time within 3 days when she was younger and sounded better than puking her. It pretty much emptied completely. I'll wait to see if she lays a broken egg and monitor in the meantime.
