Isaac, My 5 Year Old Delaware Rooster....Old Age is Closing In On The Big Guy (Long Story)

I put the castor oil to the test about arthritis today...on my own knee. I have a knee that really works up on cold, damp days like today and was particularly bad today. I figured I'd try the CO and then a heating pad to see the results. Well, I applied the CO but got busy and didn't remember to put on a heating pad. I never really thought about it again until several hours later and then I realized my knee wasn't hurting any longer! Even though I'd read it works and I saw it on my own chickens, I just never expected it to work on that knee...nothing else seems to work on it, so I was pretty surprised.

I'm definitely getting more of this stuff and keeping it handy for days like today. Going to try it on my neck next time as that's the really worst place I have arthritis.
Neat :)

We use peppermint on sore joints, and coconut oil on skin irritation, inflammation and infection. If you get dry skin from the dry winter, try the coconut oil. You won't ever go back. I treated a puppy born with a quarter sized hole on it's head (it was skin missing, not skull) and within a week that hole was gone. The puppy still has a cowlick. The vet told me to put it down. It would definitely get an infection. I decided to give the pup 24 hours with coconut oil. The hole was a little smaller the next day, so I continued. Thank goodness I did :)

Also helps me keep my IBS symptoms under control. I cook my eggs with it.

Seriously I've turned so many people to coconut oil, they should give me royalties :p

It is an unrefined saturated fat. This is VERY healthy for you.

I'm not convinced about that. That's why movie theater popcorn is so bad for you, the coconut fat added to it. Seems to me that any saturated fat would not be something you'd want to consume large amounts of. It's why I made my own baby formulas way back when my sons were babies, to avoid the coconut fat/oils in commercial formulas.

Articles like this one are why I'm not getting on the coconut oil bandwagon.

I'm not saying it's a magic cure-all, and you don't have to eat it to receive some of it's many benefits.

We buy: Pure, Unrefined, Cold pressed, extra virgin, organic coconut oil.

I will say this, aoxa: I do believe that completely natural, unadulterated foods, though higher in fat, eaten exclusively while avoiding all processed foods (say, shopping the outer edges of the grocery stores, as some would describe it) is what would bring this country back to health. We are doing better, but we live on a very limited budget. We could not afford coconut oil even if we wanted to due to the cost. Cheaper alternatives, if we use oil at all, are what we must buy. It's one of those very expensive foods that folks who live below the poverty level just can't think of buying, at least on any regular basis.

So, back to Isaac, who is not getting any coconut oil, lol. He did have a warm castor oil leg massage as well as having it rubbed into his wattles and comb. We'll see if it helps the big guy. He has had two doses of Tylan so far for his suspected pneumonia. Seems to be breathing slightly better. His eyes are bright and clear and he is still crowing in the basement.
