Isa's Homestead Happenings and Hangout

Not a shocker. Pretty sure neither of us has ever mentioned one thing the other would eat.
I certainly like chicken meat, we process 75-ish a year. I just do not like KFC chicken.
We have a bunch of amish around us that will occasionally do barbecue fundraisers and we like that chicken as well.
The reason I don't do the KFC chicken is because I've become nauseous several times after eating it. Must be something in it that reacts to my stomach, therefore my reactive stance on KFC chicken.

Say troyer how's the hatching going? Any lately

I'm killing it with 7!

2 more chicken and a duck clutch and that's all for me.
I can expect at least 150-200 total of chicks out of hen hatched broods. It's substantially easier with my setup to let the hens hatch and raise their own young. I do mostly single mating which makes it easier to tell which ones are the producers of excellent fowl.

There's 150+ that I incubator hatched here and most of those we sold. I'm just letting the hens hatch from now on.

Nice!

I'm right behind you man, I'll be totaling around 25

What type of dishes do you make with yours that are processed? Real question, don't you have all bantams? Thanks

I have about half and half in standard and bantam.
Our favorite is to can the chicken, also saving on freezer space. It is very easy to get it from the cellar, season it and fry it. There have been times when I just butchered one for the two of us, soaked it in brine and threw it on the grill.
We really enjoy roasting the bantams over a fire in the summer.
Sometimes we'll invite friends over and everybody except the smaller children roast their own. That has been some of the most enjoyable times we've had with friends and most of them have enjoyed it as well. Along with the chicken we'll have an assortment of vegetables that can be roasted if someone so desires.
