Isa's Homestead Happenings and Hangout

Eggs at the Ag class looked great! There was about 8 or so that were clear out of 40-something, and the rest went in the other incubator today, so they'll be a week behind.

I'm so excited to see what one's hatch for the class this time

Just curious, Trying to find scientific evidence of D.E, pumpkin seeds, Cayenne pepper, tobacco etc as wormers.
have you dug through the brazillion threads around here? There are so many you can't throw a pebble out without hitting in in the feed and emergency threads.

Or there were. Dunno if they've been cleaned up

I think that would take longer since I've never seen a link to a study, even then it's usually a link to a bogus blog stating "I use this, I've never seen worms ergo it works." or "My great grandpappy used tobaccy on his banties and they never had a worm in their lives."
Not exactly hard evidence. I've only found two studies on DE for worms in chickens, the first one (the one with the DE for more eggs) states there's never been a study before and the second is slightly more recent. I guess that's all there is. I found one for pigeons but it's not very well documented i.e no pre-treatment numbers, no listing of control groups finding.
The fact that I'm not finding anything should be enough. :/
Tons of studies on ruminants, but I wonder if the different digestion systems make any difference.
