Isa's Homestead Happenings and Hangout

So, the temperature varies greatly in the coop with the littles. It gets down to 70° at night and is 87° in there now. They lay under the lamp when they are sleeping and are running around the coop during the day, eating and drinking good. My question is, can the differences in the temps get them sick? That's quite a variance in the temp
I put mine out at a week old and night time temps dip way below that. My day time temps aren't as high as yours either.

No need to sugar coat it.

I think they'll be fine. What's the temp under the lamp?
I should have been more clear, my bad. The temps I said are under the lamp

The temps I listed are under the lamp. It's been getting down to 40° at night and 50ish during the day, outside temps

Ya I got that.
My week old ones are maybe 75° under the light during the warmest part of the day.
After 2 weeks to 2 1/2 weeks they haven't been getting a light at all. I'm hard on my chicks.

How old is the rabbit? He is not going to survive the surgery
He's a middle-aged Netherland Dwarf in the Netherlands. His name is Bo. He's had a lot of health issues and was most recently in for bladder stones and almost going into G.I. Stasis while also being hypothermic. Something about his skull shape (Netherlands) makes their teeth grow weirdly, so he has to go in for regular teeth shaping, or he won't eat properly. He's always been a bit of a diva. He's got nearly 200K people on YT rooting for him, though.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings here, but Rabbits and general anesthesia are a 50/50 shot at best. They do not do well being drugged. The odds are much better if you have a good vet, who is well-versed with rabbits and sedation.

As an ND parent and breeder, I can agree that all dwarf breeds are more prone to having tooth problems, but it isn't specifically a Netherland problem. It's a result of their smaller and more "smooshed" skull. Like pugs and breathing issues. Same kind of deal. It's also genetic, so you will see it come up more often in a line where it has happened already. You can trim, their teeth at home with some nippers if you know what you're doing, but usually as long as they have some chew toys they can self-manage.

Bladder stones are rough on bunnies :(

Oh the vet straight up told her it was bad.

He's been through a lot and managed to pull through, so maybe his luck hasn't run out, but I'm not going to hold my breath. Just sad that he's got something going on. I'd imagine it's related to the bladder stones, but I don't know. They tried to flusdh them out a few weeks ago when he was under. I said then they should have removed them surgically, but he was in such bad shape they didn't want to put him under more stress.

Please don't ask, I don't know which one she is
