Isa's Homestead Happenings and Hangout

No, you have to get patients or visitors to safety first.

I have a problem with the alarm sounding because you want help and you want to page Code Red and location first to get people to respond. If you sound the alarm it is so loud no one can hear you on the overhead. So, I teach to use common sense. Which, is severely lacking. But, before you pull it call the code first.
Would the alarm not notify them of the danger?

Yes, the alarm does, but you have to be near a panel (24 hour manned location) to know the location and understand it. It also auto dials the monitor company. But, calling a code red you can tell exactly where it is to everyone who are trained to respond. Also what I teach is for someone that is at the panel to silence after it goes off, because it more than likely goes into alarm from something other than someone pulling a station if it is really a fire. So, it is still in alarm, with strobes and fire doors closed but you can hear, and hear yourself think.

And, the common sense comes into play always. Because if you can grab an extinguisher and put out the fire before you rescue a patient or sound the alarm, then that is what you should do. However, I cannot teach that officially so to speak.

Hospitals have so many redundant safeguards that the fire will be out before you know you have one most times.
