Issues breathing in almost 10 year old hen

My MIL has used some of the salves and highly recommends also. Some of these things are legal in NC and some prescription items for certain things. There is discussion of further legalization then I could make my own. Don't want to have to call the grandson to get Nana out of jail! :gig
It's got so bad the dr. gave me pain meds but I don't like the side effects so I tend to suffer till I can't stand it.
Thanks for the info.

My husband has rheumatoid arthritis and his hands are pretty gnarly. He uses CBD salve on his hands and says it does take the pain down a few notches. I tried CBD oil to improve sleep, I was hopeful it would work but after 6 weeks of daily use, I didn't notice any difference.

Wow! So much helpful information!

@coach723 , I’m assuming that my antibiotic has been opened already since it expires 3 months from now, and they only gave me enough for 8 days.

I am open to give Eddie CBD if there are no side effects and it could help with the pain. And if Eddie doesn’t live long enough to give it a try I noticed Dev has arthritis growing in her hocks now so she may benefit as well. Would oral CBD or a salve be best for Eddie? I can put some on her hocks for arthritis.

Eddie has livened up today. She ate and drank quite a bit and her crop seems to be digesting enough. She actually had 2-3 normal poops! Some were liquid but I am hopeful for her. Not many breathing fits at all either, maybe 1-2 today. I was scared Eddie would pass away in my arms last night but she seems to have made a slight comeback today. She did keep her eyes closed quite a bit, even on our nightly stroll which is not good because she loves looking around and growling at birds. But at least she ate and drink more than she has the past two to three days.
She is also loving her mealworms. I started to grow my own mealworms but they all turned into beetles or got fed to my hens so now I am waiting for weeks to get more so I just bought some for her. I am hopeful Eddie will make it through this weekend and will be happy to be alive 😊

Here’s a picture from Eddie’s walk tonight 😊

I swear by CBD salves for arthritis. Depending on the severity of the pain, one application usually works, reducing the pain by 90%. Often, I need to apply it a second and third time to get pain relief, but it definitely works on me.

When Colorado legalized cannabis, I bought a small one ounce jar for $50 to see if it worked. Yes, it did, spectacularly. So then I made my own salve from then on. And I made it three times as strong as the store bought jar. The plants are super fun to grow. The chickens love to "prune" them when given the chance. But it's not to party. They just love the green leaves.
I am laughing 😃 I just envisioned a chicken cannabis plant pruning party lol

Wow, what an adorable photo of your girls! ❤️ They look great, very happy too. :)

Glad to hear she is feeling better, drinking is good, eating is even better, hopefully she continues on the road to recovery. Keep an eye on her and keep up with all the TLC. Thanks for sharing!!

Oh and at this point in her healing, feed her what ever she will eat, even if all she will consume is mealworms. Its important she eats. Sick birds usually crave proteins like bugs and scrambled eggs, especially if they have had crop troubles, proteins won't feed any bad bacteria that may be in the crop or digestive track from the slow crop. Offer carbohydrate foods after her digestion is back to normal, and this includes any chicken feed.
