It’s been 24 hours since internal pip. Should I make a safety hole?

I agree, moisten that whole exposed membrane with coconut oil or Vaseline. If you can’t tell after that, take a pic and maybe someone here can.
Should I prick a small hole in the bruise? I can’t see that it would do any harm and if the bill is there, then the duckling could breathe

Not yet. Let’s see the position in the area you’ve already opened.
If it’s the ducklings butt at the membrane, then you can proceed with the bruise. Just make a tiny hole though.

Also you should be able to feel movement with your finger, if it’s still alive. Just lay your finger on the membrane and wait for a few seconds.

Alright, I’ll put some coconut oil on and post a pic

I can’t tell if it’s breathing, there’s no regular movement just shifting around in there. I don’t know how it would be able to breath if it hasn’t pipped yet
It’s like a clock breathing starts then they try to hatch
They start breathing and run out of air in the egg so they pip into the air cell but some are in the wrong position and need to external as they aren’t by the air cell

Ok I put some oil on

it looks like the yolk sac is right there at the top and to the left and I can see steady movements, I guess kind of like breaths

I was also thinking that looked like yolk. If so, then it is backwards. I’d say the bruise is where the bill is.
I’d make a small safe hole near the bruise. You could also tape some clear plastic wrap around the end you opened, to keep it moistened. Either way, keep any exposed membranes moist at all times.

Ok thank you for your help! I’ll make a small hole now and let y’all know if I see a bill. :fl

This next safety hole you don’t want large
Small like a sharpened pencil end
We want baby to get air but not dry it out
This will be a long hatch 48-60 hours so lots of patients needed here
We have to add the step of the air cell end to the safety hole you make
I make it then leave baby be for 24 hours. Then make that hole a little bigger but not to big maybe a dime size or less to see the bill
I also think putting Vaseline on the end you opened then plastic kitchen wrap just so we can keep it moist. We don’t want it drying out
