It’s been 47 hours since noticed internal pip. Is it time to assist??? HELP!

@AmyA248
How is the baby doing
Is there an update on the veins
Hi!

I thought I already messaged you this morning. I’m so sorry!!!!
I started a thread this morning about an unabsorbed yolk sac and there are over 20 replies and I’ve posted many pictures.

So much has happened! ❤️
To make a long story short, I was told last night to open the air sac more and lubricate the dried out membranes around her, after I did that within an hour she was hatching. I looked inside and the yolk sac wasn’t completely absorbed yet, so I had to put her in a little cup with paper towel to keep her from progressing.
She still peeped and fought all night and got a foot out!
She settled and at about 6:30 AM I checked her again and upon taking her out of the cup I thought I still saw yolk sac and posted about what to do with pictures.

I was told it was just her belly and I was thrilled and just put her back in the incubator to allow her to finish.
But the membrane was so dry she couldn’t get fully out by herself so I had to wet it a bit and help her out.
As of now she’s doing great and resting in her incubator.
She’s dry and scooting around picking at the lining of the floor and grooming herself.

So far, so good!!! I’m absolutely exhausted and couldn’t even go to church this morning.

Here are some pictures of her!

And I want to thank you with all my heart for all of your help and kindness!! ❤️💕🥰

I thought they said that they had more than one incubator?
Hi,

If you’re talking about me I have my daughter’s chicken eggs in the lockdown incubator because the temperature and humidity were correct.

I have very staggered ages of my duck eggs and have to wrap the ones that need to stop turning with a bit of paper towel.
My girl is now separated from her my male because she can’t stop laying and I’m out of room.

I had NO idea my husband told her she could have 4 chicken eggs from our neighbor because I was not prepared.
They are very dark and I’m unable to candle them. I did the float test and they all moved. Their due date is tomorrow and I know nothing about chickens.
I wouldn’t even know if I needed to make a safety hole!

I already am raising 3 chicks for a friend who’s never home and they cannot be outside yet.
I have 2 Pekin ducklings I’m taking care of for the same reason.
And 20 more Muscovy eggs, plus our bunny and our dog! 😄

Funny thing is that I’m OCD about having a an immaculate home, but thank God it’s large and we have a finished basement with sliders that go right to the backyard!!
But right now we have quite a few animals and I’m also a rehabber/rescuer so I’ll be getting Spring babies that need care very soon! I’m getting exhausted just thinking about it.. 🤣🤣🤣

Here’s our “mini farm” 💕

You sure have a lot going on
Can you clarify
Do you have 2 bators ? Do you have eggs in both ?
Chicken eggs are much the same as duck eggs just don’t take as long to hatch
As for keeping your drake away it’s not needed
You can eat fertile eggs that are just laid if they are not sat on or incubated
If you don’t want to eat them yourself you could scramble them up for your other animals including the ducks
Just make sure to provide chick grit to help them digest any feed that isn’t crumbles
How is the little one doing now ?

Good morning ☀️

I certainly do have a lot going on! 😊
And yes I have 2 incubators with 4 chicken eggs and one duck egg in lockdown.

20 staggered ages of Muscovy eggs in my good incubator.

So, I don’t need to separate my girl from my 2 drakes?
They are always on her and I feel sorry for her, she’s so sweet and the drakes are quite aggressive.
She looks at me as if saying “Help me mom!” Is it normal to lay fertile eggs daily for 2 months straight? Will it hurt her?
I’m sure I told you that our other female was killed by a hawk, I only turned away for a minute, but obviously the hawk was watching..
So now thee drakes just won’t leave her alone.

I had no idea I could feed them their eggs!
So I just scramble them up and mix it with their feed?
I almost feel bad about doing that, but I need to toughen up. But I know that I could never eat them myself.

So, baby is doing very well! She’s just darling and already eating and drinking. She even sits in her little water bowl that’s only 1/4 inch deep.
Full of vigor!! 🥰

Unfortunately, my husband has to go on leave for an entire month. He’s a Marine and it’s something I haven’t been able to get used to, but he loves our country and I can’t make him feel guilty. So now I’ll be alone with all these animals. But I made a commitment.
The only problem is that it’s still winter and I can’t put the 2 Pekins or the chicks outside yet.
I made the commitment to raise them until they are ready to be integrated into the rest of the flock (the Pekins and chicks) but they are very quickly growing out of their brooders and I don’t know what to do.

The Muscovy’s are ours and this is only the second time I’ve had to incubate. The first time was with the abandoned Wood ducks and it was June so I was able to put them outside at 6 weeks and introduce them to my Muscovy ducks at 10 weeks.
Luckily they were all the same age and it worked out perfectly.
The Wood ducks were obviously wild ducks, so when they were ready I believe they migrated for the winter. It’s possible that they will come back and live in our pond, but I can’t keep wild ducks from doing what they were meant to do. 🥰

I just wish it was warmer outside because I honestly don’t know how I’m going to continue on keeping these quickly growing babies indoors..

I’ve enclosed some photos of the new baby. I don’t know if it’s a male or female so we can’t decide on a name yet. 😄

Hugs and blessings,
Amy

If you only have one girl and two drakes, yes you need to keep them separate or they could hurt her badly

Good morning Amy
I didn’t realize you had a few drakes and one girl. Yes separate her so she gets a break
Boys can be terrible
She will lay an egg daily no matter if they are fertile or not
My pekin laid for over a year straight
Her daughters started last April and 2 didn’t stop in winter
The first year they lay a lot of eggs
you could introduce the Pekins to her as a see no touch for a few weeks
Just use a fence fence with chicken wire or hardware cloth as a separation
Yes scramble the eggs and leave them in a second dish
Some of mine love them others don’t even look at it
But they are also great for cats and dogs as well
@Miss Lydia has Muscovy ducks do she can tell you more about their egg laying

If you only have one girl and two drakes, yes you need to keep them separate or they could hurt her badly
OMG!!!!
THANK YOU!!!

I’ve separated them multiple times to give her a break, then someone tells me that she’ll become depressed being alone, but these are local friends, not from this group though.
I’m so sorry that I didn’t clarify that I now only have one female and 2 drakes. I feel AWFUL putting her in danger!
I’m going to isolate her back in our shed where I’ve put her before. It’s very uncomfortable and warm.

I feel terribly guilty that I failed to appropriately address this issue and I will immediately get her away from my drakes.

Thank you so incredibly much! 🥰

I’m going to separate her immediately for longer now.
I feel AWFUL that I didn’t make it clear that I have 2 drakes and only one female!!
I can’t believe I’ve been so stupid allowing her to be in danger!! I should have been much clearer in regards to the fact that I have 2 drakes. 😔

I have given her a break many times and put her in our shed that I turned into a coop for isolation. But my local friends keep telling me that she will become depressed and lonely because ducks need companionship, so I listen to them because I’m still very new at this.

I should have immediately made it perfectly clear that I have 2 drakes in this group instead of listening to my local friends.
Everyone here is very knowledgeable and know exactly what to do in regards to every subject.

My poor girl,, I feel so terribly guilty.

She may get lonely
If you could find a way to have a separate fenced area would be good
Then she could see them but they can’t touch her
We all have to learn and Byc is a great place
We have all been in your shoes at one point. Don’t be so hard on yourself
Hopefully you will get some more girls and this will help solve the ratio issue
