It amazes me

It amazes me how chicks just know how to do things, without a hen to teach them. Put my 2.5 week olds in their coop and they started giving themselves dust baths and started perching on their roost. I love it and think its just awesome!

I am new to raising chickens and am in that state of amazement, just as you are. Other bird species are so "mother bird" dependent.

Agreed! The amount of instinct these birds have is astonishing. Also, something of a relief, since I don't know I could teach them what they need to know! It's reassuring for when I start them to free ranging. I won't worry so much that they'll get lost or something.
